As an old worn out LEO I will say that if a crook wants your spare tire. he'll take it. Lug keys to the locking lugs are very easy to come by, and if they are a wheel thief they'll have them all. Don't worry about it, as Ace @AcesandEights said, it doesn't seem to be a wide spread problem. During my entire career I never got a call for a stolen Jeep spare tire.
Well presumably once they have the whole Bronco they'll just unmount the spare and then leave the rest of the Bronco parked somewhere.

Simple, secure it with a 30 foot lock cable. Provides plenty of length to use your spare without unlocking it.

You generally don't have to worry about your wheels being stolen unless you live in a ROUGH neighborhood or unless you're a dealership.
Wheels get stolen from dealers all the time. New tires, new wheels, plenty available...
