I have 3 fords and all of them have APIM issues. Sync4 restarts, CarPlay disconnects, etc. I was told there was an update coming this month to "fix all these issues" by my dealer. I haven't seen anything yet, has anyone else? I only ask as these update pushes for Ford are so unreliable.

That’s the rumor - nothing has been released to my knowledge

Older versions of Sync could update from a USB drive, but I think it’s been removed on Sync 4. The options are OTA update or using FDRS (dealer software)

Have had no issues with my Bronco or Lincoln. Everything works as it should. I may just be lucky. Who knows? Hopefully whatever updates are coming that fix the problems some are experiencing won’t cause problems for those that function properly.

Ford is slowly going to an Android based system and away from Sync as new models come out, so there must be a reason for that change.

I will sometimes not even boot correctly....but with in 3-4min it comes up fine. Sometimes it will also not do carplay correctly wired or wireless...so I usually in this case at a stop light, just shut the car off open the door and restart the car...so it is atleast never a permanent problem and usually fixes itself. It is also not very frequent...meaning maybe 1 or 2 times a week driving everyday. That is way less of pain that using a windows laptop/desktop has. LOL. And we are talking FORD software people, not Microsoft, Apple or Google software engineers....hmmmm not sure that is a compliment.

Well you have to be lucky. Don't think you are immune though. This is very common in modern Fords.

I thought it was an Android Auto issue. Mine used to work pretty flawlessly, but lately, it shuts down near any cell tower....

It is really strange to me that it runs in "spurts". No issues for a while and then all heck breaks loose. I had 3 black screens this week after none for several months. Who knows!

Don't hold your breathe waiting for the update that address the Sync issue. It was supposed to be released in Q4 of this year, but about a week ago, Ford sent out this SSM to all dealers advising it was pushed back to Q1 of next year. So we're looking at January best case scenario.

Just an update to help others. I took it back to the dealer again and they said they did a "guided software update". Supposedly there were several important updates that were not downloadable OTA. It did change the way the display looked, so I can tell it updated something. Since that time, no black screen reboots. We shall see, but I didn't realize that not all updates come in OTA and it sounds "glitchy" to me about getting these updates installed. Hence the "guided" approach at the dealer. Hope this helps others!

Looks like my bronco updated to version 10.1.0 directly aimed at the APIM issue. Expedition and F150 not updated yet.

I’ve come to realize no electronic device capable of having its operation modified remotely and/or requiring updates will ever work perfectly. Updates cause new issues that need updates. They pump a lot of devices out these days with the hopes of fixing it later. Just the times we are in. I’m ok with it. Have to be.
