Thanks, do you think there would be enough space for two AWG 6 cables?
Probably, they'll be stiffer, so more difficult to fish through, but there was quite a bit of room depending on where you put things. I don't see why not!

Nice write up. Just got my bronco so looking to put my ftm400 in. Only challenge right now is how to mount antenna. Saw the lip mount on the tailgate, does that cause any wear or paint damage? I like the tire mount for the jeep, saw someone else use that but had to use a wheel spacer to make room for antenna. If I do that, may cause fitment issue with my bike rack, not sure yet. Kinda leaning toward lip mount. We do need mobile radio group in here!

I'm not sure what the permanent situation will be, but for now, I am working with this a trunk lip mount. I'm leaning toward running the feedline through one of the grommets under the floor, then following the frame to the front and mounting to the hood for long-term.

I have a trip next week and I was tired of using a HT for mobile comms.

Also, I'm going to have to remove this when it goes into the body shop to fix the transit damage, so wanted something temporary.

Do these lip mounts cause and paint damage or marks if were to remove?

They have rubber backing on the outside part and a metal plate on the inside part, so generally, no, but if you're worried about it, there are other options.

Did you mount this against the body or on the outside of the spare tire mount? I put it on the outside, just removing two bolts and mounting so it's not against the paint, but it pressed against the spare tire like that. Really didn't want it flat against the paint on tailgate. Maybe do the wheel spacer like someone else did on one..

Anyone with these running a jumper / bonding from the bracket to the frame?

I just installed one and it isn't performing quite as good as the hood lip mount I was using, so thinking reduced ground plane is issue. Still very usable just a little more static and less range it seems.
That’s good to know, I haven’t installed it yet. Which hood lip mount were you using? Looking to install my radio soon. I just moved and haven’t unpacked the shack and I miss being on the air.

Nothing fancy, just the nmo lip mount from midland I had laying around from a GMRS kit.

...

I'll have to do the rest with the radio later - I have control and mic cables on order, so once those arrive, I can finish the install. For now, the radio is working, it just still looks ugly!
So did you ever finish the install? I would love to see where you located your radio body.
