The answer is simple... If Ford had put an iron block V8 in the Bronco there would've been no GVWR left to allow for a driver, which would have hurt sales quite significantly

Ugh I wish I had a hand held turbo when I hiked it. I barely made it due to altitude sickness.

It's all about efficiency......it takes x amount of energy to move a vehicle. If a large n/a motor is more efficient, it is actually possible for it to outperform a smaller engine in fuel mileage, even if the smaller engine is boosted. Engineering

And that is reason #2 why I'm getting a 2.7. Work less, use less. 2.7 won't tax the motor to a degree the 2.3 will, IMO, so should be more efficient, cheaper to maintain.
