Just joined today because I figured I should post about my ordering experience.

I walked into my local dealership in mid November and got set up to put in a 2023 retail order (4-door big bend with hard top) when the order banks open back up. My dealer said they'd go ahead and submit my build as a December stock order as well, just in case I get lucky.

Well, got a call today that my order got picked up and is scheduled to be built the week of Feb. 6th. When they submitted the stock order, they signed off on the spec and MSRP.

With no prior order or reservation, I can't believe that I may have my bronco 3-4 months after first inquiring about ordering one.

Not sure if other dealers are doing this, but man am I excited. Thought I was going to have to wait a year like most people.

Luckily for you the one trim Ford seems to be able to build plenty of is Big Bend. The vast majority of stock orders on lots these days are Big Bend, with a sprinkling of Outer Banks orders. Want a Wildtrak or Badlands?? Sucks for you, time to wait. But a Big Bend?? We handing these out left and right!

Just curious... what was the rest of your config?? Did you get the Sasquatch package or the locking rear axle??

And congrats!!

If it’s not too late grab the rear locker. It gets you a little better gearing if you going to put bigger tires on it. Of course the non locker should get you a little better highway mpg 4.27(gears with locking rear) vs 3.73 non locking. It’s all about your intended use.if a dealer has allocation for a stock unit and lets your order that way for msrp that’s a good work around.

I'm guessing skipping the rear lockers is the reason why he got a build date so quickly. There is about a dozen Broncos available for sale on lots near where I live... 9 of them are Big Bends, the other 3 are Outer Banks... and none of them have lockers.

But yeah, I agree. Locking rear axle is super awesome to have, and not just because of the locking axle, the gearing helps. The only problem is it'll probably push the build date back.

I am in a very similar boat, but with a non SAS Badlands.

I walked into my local dealer on October 28th to order a 2023 BL. Predictably they said I couldn't order one retail, but they said they'd try to spec out a dealer stock order for me if they could.

On 12/13, they called and said they can get everything I want, except I'd have to step down from the Lux package to the High package, and forgo the towing package. I was on the fence about the Lux anyway, and I can handle the hitch myself. I told them to go for it. They were cautiously optimistic, but told me not to hold my breath.

They called again last week and said the order was confirmed with a build date of 2/13/23.

I gave them a deposit last week, got a printout of the details with order # and VIN. Fortunately, this is a small town and we had a clear talk about the price. MSRP, no funny business.

I almost can't believe it.

Specs:

Badlands 4 Door, in Eruption Green
2.3l w/7spd Manual
MIC Hard Top
High Package
33" A/T tires
Non SAS

Badlands trim carries enough of the Sas capabilities for my purposes... lockers, sway bar disconnects, etc. And the manual provides the 2.7 gearing.

I was originally planning to order sas, but my reading on this forum lead me to change my mind.

I’m curious, how did you order a Bronco when order banks are closed except to existing order holders?

Customer orders are not available, but dealers are given some amount of stock orders for lot inventory. Some friendly dealers will use a stock order for a customer that would have been ordering a "retail" or custom order.

@brtd is correct. @chid19 didn't submit it an order (said so in the original post).

Dealer took his order and they'll submit it once order banks do open back up. Effectively the dealer has their own "pre-order" system. Lots of dealers will take a deposit and/or track orders in an Excel spreadsheet (or something similar). That way when the order banks do open up they can submit a bunch of orders.

They also submitted a stock order in case they get lucky. Stock orders are automatically prioritized behind all retail orders, but since he submitted a Big Bend (the least in-demand trim), there is a chance he could get lucky and receive the stock order.

---

My dealer doesn't like doing this because the price of the vehicle can change between when they take the "pre-order" and when the order banks actually open up. Similarly... stock orders are also not eligible for price protection, so they don't like using stock orders for customers either. It has caused problems in the past with customers who went to go pick up their vehicle only to find that the price was thousands of dollars more than what it was when they initially talked to the dealer.

I don't think there is any problem doing it as long as the customer knows up front. But I know from experience working retail when I was younger that customers conveniently "forget" things and cause havoc, so I don't blame my dealer for taking that approach.

Yeah, that was the one caveat from my dealer about pricing. They won't charge anything more than MSRP, but the MSRP at delivery could be higher than it is today.

He said he has a build date, I’m a little skeptical on this one!?

The same thing happened to me. I called my local dealer and they were placing stock orders. They let me spec out my bronco the way I wanted, it just had to be an OBX. I ordered a hardtop, SAS, tow package, and high package. This took place on November 1st 2022. Took delivery of my new bronco on February 17, and paid MSRP.
