There are tons of YouTube videos on recovery from established brands like ARB and real life groups like Matt's Offroad Recovery, etc

Learn about safety first and foremost and then you can look at the benefits of soft and hard shackles, winching if applicable, kinetic ropes and straps versus tow straps, line dampers, attachment points, traction boards, etc.

My take - if you don't know you need it, you don't need it. If there is a chance you will need recovery you should not go by yourself. Go with someone experienced who already has snatch straps. See how it goes before shelling out for something that takes up A LOT of space in the back and you may never use.

I differ in opinion, I carry 2 chains, recovery strap, yank strap, hard and soft shackles, a tree saver and a rope dampener. This is about two gym bags of gear. Get a 25k# 25' strap. They are for even pulls not yanking.

My entire M2M flip-down tray is full of gear and tools. Always with me, always "out of the way" of normal packing up stuff for camping/trips.
We can muse all day on brands of gear, what is worth the cost, the pros and cons of Amazon-sourced stuff.
FWIW I have a few soft shackles from Amazon that have done half a dozen recoveries and pulls and show no signs of wear or damage.

With straps, I fall more in line with the more expensive (or at least mid-cost) stuff. My recovery strap, tree saver, and snatch block are all name brand with the info tag that I'll delve into in a sec. I manage a business that moves stuff weighing 20 tons and have come to respect robust rigging.

I know it is odd to spend for that stuff but cheap out on the soft shackles...I don't even have an explanation other than trying to save a few bucks when the funds got tight. Full intent to put some Factor55 ones on my "wish list" for Christmas, buy them if they don't appear under the tree this year.

Good straps that you can depend on will have a WLL or MBS rating (load limit and break strength).
Shy away from straps/ropes that only have some figure for "maximum load" or "maximum capacity".
This info will be on a robust tag sewn into the strap, usually near the wear sleeve.
As far as sewing, great straps have threads sewn across the width and back and forth in a zig-zag pattern along a length near the tag. Like a "boxed-in X pattern" if you will.

I also store two Crosby brand steel shackles and another few rings/snatch blocks in the cubby under the rear floor.
@popo_patty can attest, unfortunately, to using the right stuff in the right way. Anything less is a gamble that can carry an ultimate price. Glad he made it out as good as he did. Others have not had that fortune to do so.

Everyone on a 4x4 trail should have at least a shovel(everyone poops), air compressor, strap/recovery rope and some shackles.

My take - if you don't know you need it, you don't need it. If there is a chance you will need recovery you should not go by yourself. Go with someone experienced who already has snatch straps. See how it goes before shelling out for something that takes up A LOT of space in the back and you may never use.
They better have some ice cold beer!

@broadicustomworks I plan to give @popo_patty the $50 Amazon Rope Tug of his life.
