Noticed this the other day.... Not sure if I should attempt to solder, rear view mirror adhesive, or ????

What's your take? Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks.

Mine did that earlier this year and my Ford dealer replaced the rear windshield under warranty. My service tech said he used to have a guy who could solder it but he left.

Yep. Happened to my ‘23 black diamond. I first attempted a repair with the permatex kit and it failed twice. Then brought to the dealer and his glass guy tried to solder it... failed again. Then the dealer agreed to order a new glass but the one that arrived was not the right glass so after several more weeks of waiting the correct glass was installed. The tech forgot to install the lower rubber weather stripping but fortunately I caught that before leaving the dealership. They swapped out the old one and installed in the new glass. It’s been a week so far and am keeping fingers crossed. If I had to do this again I’d start with the dealer as a warranty replacement

I purchased my Bronco Pre-owned. Both of my rear windshield defroster wires were completely off. The dealer brought in a guy to solder them and then I purchased covers similar to the ones already posted. I wouldn't try to solder them yourself. I haven't had a problem since; however, since its been summer and I haven't needed to use the rear defroster, hopefully they still work :)

I saw those covers but think they wouldn’t help if something catches / yanks on the exposed wires leading to the contacts. But I suppose anything can help the otherwise poor design

I just had this issue for the second time. The first time they fixed it under warranty and replaced the whole rear glass. A couple months later it happened again. This time I was out of warranty and they wanted to charge me $200 to solder it back on. I guess I will just do it myself, and may try to hot glue over the edges to see if that helps keep it on. Does anyone think the hot glue around the edges may help?

Couldn’t hurt. When my dealer tried to re solder it did not hold so ultimately replaced the glass

I had this same issue with my '22 Wildtrak...
Dealership did this to repair it... Just scratched off the original area, called me said their first attempt to reattach didn't work.
They said second attempt worked come get it.
Overall a minor scenario here... But looks like crap. Guess we will find out if this tab stays attached or not.

Anyone know if Ford has an official repair suggestion?

FYI, here is the procedure from PTS for the repair. Local independent glass shops could reinstall , but long term the grid may ultimately become an open circuit with the lead still holding in place (check resistance with the ignition off. multimeter red lead to the left side vehicle harness connector removed from the glass, black lead to a ground, like the swing gate latch loop, per PTS it should be > 3 Ohm). If < 3 ohms, the fix requires new glass. The Ford ESP Premium plan does not cover it and it's expensive. I will report out if there are any changes.

*Update* = I just had the dealer verify what I told them, their quote for replacement back glass is $1947. Local auto glass professionals quoted $350 parts + $200 labor. It will probably take me less than 1 hr to do myself. Shame on the ESP for sure.
