Rear seat fold down release broke

Well I got my first new bronco malfunction...

As the title says, went to fold down the rear seat this afternoon, pulled up the passenger rear seat back pull lanyard to release the latch and something broke way down inside towards the bottom of the seat back. Now the lanyard does nothing and seat back is locked up.

Any ideas how to release the latch and get inside the seat back to fix whatever broke in there ? I definitely felt something plastic at the end of the lanyard snap when I pulled on it.

i have the same issue, my drivers side rear seat lanyard will fold the headrest, but the seat will not fold. 2 door model, what is the fix? I prefer to do it myself.

Remove the seat, disassemble it and replace what broke.

I had the same thing happen on day 1.

I removed the seat and the end of the cable had become disconnected. No new parts required.

when you say you removed the seat, just the seat back, or did the seat bottom need to come out too?

Hey folks, I can only speak to the two door but the four door may be similar.

There is a small box in the center of the upper portion of each seat that has the wires and lever that enable the seat release.

To get to the box, you will need to partially remove the upper seat covers. At the bottom of the upper seat there is Velcro, a zipper for each side, and a long plastic clip that all need to be unfastened. The you can get to the box by lifting the front of the seat cover.

The box has a metal cover with three small torx head screws. Remove those and the cover and most likely the issue is a wire disconnected in there.

Why did you have to remove the seat. It looks like you can remove a plastic cover and get to the end of that cable that came loose.

I have a 2 door and was removing the rear seats anyway. The trim panels you’d need to remove are hard to get at in my opinion.

I feel dumb but have been having some issues with the right rear seat not locking in. I push it up and i hear the click but then i’m able to pull it forward and it releases without having to pull the latch again.

I have to pull the latch a lot more than I thought I would have to in order to release it.

My question is does anyone have a diagram of where the seat physically locks in? I’ve seen the cable with the ball on the end that moves when the latch is pulled but was hoping to see where the actual contact locking point is. I can’t find any videos or diagrams on the parts page.

Going to add to this. Looking for diagrams or videos. 2 dr rear driver bike cable came undone. I move my rear seats up and down often. If I just move carefully I can fix this? Looking at seat from front the cable is under rear driver side seat on left, detached at an obvious connection, little silver hook looking part. The plastic covers pop off? Under warranty but I rather fix if can.

Not easy to navigate, for me anyway, but finally found this. The clips are a pita to remove with junk tools from internet, end up cutting them out and replacing, and I do like the oem clips, whatever, save money doing the work myself I guess. The 61383 wire, looks like a key, had fallen out, goes in key-hole, wire holder had fallen off, press that back into tiny welded wire holder, 5 clips to remove cover, pop it all back together, buy a few new clips, seat fixed. I would love to just have money sometimes and have everything done for me, but, it’s cool, does feel good to get into this Bronco and mess around and really learn about her. I hope she appreciates it and runs forever…
