Has anyone had an issue with installing the Pack Rax Kit for the Trail Rax roof rack? I have sheared two bolts in two different arms while trying to attach them. I was not cross-threading either.

The first time, the company sent me a new arm. Then in the new arm it happened again… haven’t had an issue with any of the other arms.

I tried to extract the bolt but was unsuccessful.

Drill center of bolt with 1/8 drill bit. Use an easy out bolt extractor to remove the bolt. Will take you about 10 minutes

You need to remove the powder coat from the holes before inserting the bolt. Use a reamer or round file. right now you are cutting threads with a bolt where there should be none.

That's troubling to hear. @TrailRax should include Grade 8 hardware with their kits.

Email us again about this and we will get it taken care of. Stainless steel galling could be the culprit with our stainless steel grade that we use, it sometimes "welds" itself together. We will get another one sent out to you, and we will repair the old one.

For this next one, please use some sort of grease or lube to pre-run the bolt through the arm then tighten to spec once it is on the vehicle. Sorry this is happening to you! It is not super common but does happen.

We use 316 Stainless Steel hardware which has been proven for us over the years as the best hardware property to use on the exterior of vehicles, especially on our racks.

Fair enough.

After some troubleshooting and emails with @TrailRax, they have sent a new arm! The arm should arrive tomorrow and I will finish the install. Trail Rax has been very easy to work with. They've provided great customer service too. Thanks everyone for chiming in and I'll see you on the trails!
