2022 Base Bronco (zero options selected), approx 44,000 miles.
In summary, the steering locked whilst I was driving about three weeks ago! My Bronco is in with the dealer who said the entire steering assembly has to be replaced.
Fortunately I have the extended warranty ($100 deductible) so I won’t have to pay thousands for this replacement. But, about 3 weeks on and the part is still on back order. As if there is a demand for this part, perhaps? Ha.
My VIN is not a part of any recall for this, but I wonder if it should be.
I noticed groaning noises coming from my steering wheel on a number of occasions. Never had an electric power steering vehicle before so I was not thinking it was serious, I’m used to the hydraulic systems. But it got worse and I began to comparison shop for a dealer repair. Then, one cold night, I was driving straight and minutely turned the steering wheel left to follow the road, and it seized to where I could not turn back right/straight! Thank the Lord there was a turning lane I simply moved into and stopped the Bronco (otherwise I would have continued into oncoming traffic!).
I jiggled the wheel back and forth and it suddenly freed up. Calculating the route to the nearest dealer, knowing the turning lane continued, I cautiously drove there. The seizing happened two more times; both times I did the same process and got there “safely”, at least with no damage.
If I did not buy the Granger warranty, I’d be SOL (that’s my dad voice coming back to me).
