2022 Base Bronco (zero options selected), approx 44,000 miles.
In summary, the steering locked whilst I was driving about three weeks ago! My Bronco is in with the dealer who said the entire steering assembly has to be replaced.

Fortunately I have the extended warranty ($100 deductible) so I won’t have to pay thousands for this replacement. But, about 3 weeks on and the part is still on back order. As if there is a demand for this part, perhaps? Ha.

My VIN is not a part of any recall for this, but I wonder if it should be.
I noticed groaning noises coming from my steering wheel on a number of occasions. Never had an electric power steering vehicle before so I was not thinking it was serious, I’m used to the hydraulic systems. But it got worse and I began to comparison shop for a dealer repair. Then, one cold night, I was driving straight and minutely turned the steering wheel left to follow the road, and it seized to where I could not turn back right/straight! Thank the Lord there was a turning lane I simply moved into and stopped the Bronco (otherwise I would have continued into oncoming traffic!).
I jiggled the wheel back and forth and it suddenly freed up. Calculating the route to the nearest dealer, knowing the turning lane continued, I cautiously drove there. The seizing happened two more times; both times I did the same process and got there “safely”, at least with no damage.
If I did not buy the Granger warranty, I’d be SOL (that’s my dad voice coming back to me).

Unless it starts happening on a lot of other vehicles, there's no reason for it to be recalled. Likely just a normal part failure. Good thing you have the ESP!

I take it the steering rack is not covered by the 5 year power train warranty, and also you just missed out on the 3 year warranty because of purchase date or mileage?

OP had 44k miles. I've recently shopped ESP. Not sure what's in the original powertrain warranty, but the PowertrainCARE ESP would not cover it (needs BaseCARE or above).

Correct on the 3 years, and also on the power train. Not considered power train it seems.

I know this is an older post but I'm having the same issue. The steering went solid while driving on the highway and a few time while in town. Now the steering feels much stiffer. I also have a 2022 Base model.

I have an appointment booked at the dealer. the standard bumper-bumper warranty expired last year so lets see how this goes.

Scary that it could lock completely just like that. I have started having stiff steering. At first after driving a long time, just stiff, and not returning to center. Now it is stiff all the time. Going to the dealer.

I wonder if you can opt to pay the difference in price between the stock steering rack and the upgraded one, and have the performance one installed (if compatible)?

Might be worth asking?

If we could just go back in time....
Unless you're a Fruit Fly, today was not that long ago

My suggestion was directed towards todays post, but as always your assistance is appreciated.
