My Bronco is going in to the dealer on Friday to determine what is wrong with it. I have not had a chance to see if it threw a code but I am sure it did. I searched this website to see if anyone has experienced what I did and I found nothing about it..

Last evening when coming home from work I was merging on to the freeway. At one point I floored it to get up to speed to blend in. When I did the Bronco kind of hiccupped and I could not maintain speed with the check engine light flashing. I pulled over to the right lane incase I lost all power. I had to be very light on the accelerator pedal to keep the engine from misfiring. The flashing engine light would go steady sometimes but as soon tried to accelerate it would start flashing again. I eventually exited the freeway and when I could stop I shut off the engine and restarted it to see if it would reset. That did not help.

I stayed on side streets and limped home. It seemed to get progressively worse. I did manage to get it home and immediately called the dealer for an appointment.

I am just curious if anyone else has experienced this and may know if it is serious or not. I have less than 1900 miles on it and it has been working flawlessly until now. I have been so happy with it and now am concerned about its reliability. I have been a Ford man all my life and have not had issues like this with any of my Fords.. I am now diving my 2002 Ranger with 305K miles on it until my Bronco gets fixed. Seems odd my old Ranger has to relieve my brand new Bronco.

I know I’ll probably get roasted for this, but if you floored it with only 1900 miles on it it could’ve caused issues, especially if you haven’t changed the oil yet. If you’ve been running it hard and haven’t checked the oil, you might be low on oil. I’m just a goofy old man, but my routine is I break engines in very gently when new, change the oil very early and very often, and I never run them hard until they are up to full operating temperature and are fully broken in . I used this method for almost 3,000,000 miles on the Fords I’ve bought new and I’ve never had a mechanical or electrical failure on any of them in over 40 years so I know it works. Let the stupid old man comments begin…

Did you check for rodent damage? Or at least take a look under the hood at all?
The first thing I did when I got home was look under the hood. Everything looked normal and there was no unusual sounds or strange odors.

I don't have a rodent problem. I do have opossums, racoons and skunks. They don't bother my vehicles but they sure do tear up my yard and eat my fruit.

I do check my oil and it was not a bit low. I take it easy the first 1,000 miles or so when breaking in an engine. Then I start to drive normally but don't abuse it. I did floor it just briefly to get up to speed. I would not let it rev to high rpm.

I also let my vehicle get up to operating temperature before running them hard after being broken in. I don't believe in gentle break in after 1,000 miles. I still keep from running hard until I get 2,000 to 3,000 miles on them. I am driving a 2002 Ranger now that I broke in that way and it has 305K miles on it. I broke it in with that same way and the engine still runs like new and uses no more oil than it did when new.

I built my own race engines for 32 years when I raced with SCCA. Those engines had little break in. They got a little ease during the first practice session and the next time out it was driven hard but kept the rev limit to 7,500. After that it had to take normal racing abuse. They would give me 18 race weekends before the next rebuild.

Ford Service has had my Bronco for a full day now and have not figured out what the problem is. It was easy for them to confirm there is a problem but don't know what is causing it. The service writer apologized for the delay but had no more information to give me. Hopefully, they will look into it in more depth on Monday.

The Ford dealer, after having my Bronco for 3 days, can only tell me they know it is misfiring on #1, 2 & 3 cylinders but don't know why. I knew that when I took it in. I think they are just letting it set on the side because it is warranty work and working on stuff that makes them more money.

Do you think it would help to call Ford Customer Service to get more priority behind it and possibly get a Ford Engineer involved?

On day 4 at Ford Service, they still do not know what is wrong with my Bronco. They did decide to get Ford Engineering involved after I gave them a strong hint to do so yesterday.

At least the service writer is now reporting to me every day even though they don't have much to report. They are also offering me loaner vehicle but I still have three vehicles at home to drive and will not ask for a loaner yet. That will change if this goes on much longer. Maybe me using up some of there resources will give them more incentive to get it fixed.

Ford Engineering has advised the dealership to replace all the fuel injectors. I will be surprised if that solves the problem. I can't see how all or some of the fuel injectors would fail at the same time, but with the complexity of these engines, anything can happen.

At least they are trying something. So far the whole thing is a mystery to them.

They got a Bronco Sport for me to drive while they try to figure out the problem.

Here is the latest update. Yesterday (Friday), I opened Ford Pass and it stated my Bronco was in "excellent health". I thought that meant is was repaired and working. I called the service writer and he said no, because they have not gotten the fuel injectors yet. He had no explanation as to the Ford Pass statement.

They ordered the fuel injectors last Friday. I was assured it is not on back order, the order is just slow to arrive.

They also got another loaner for me so I would not have to pay the $5 a day on the rental. It is a brand new Bronco Sport with only 16 miles on it. It is the Free Wheel Edition which is kind of flashy for my taste but I kind of like it.

I don't mind waiting to get it repaired but I am right in the middle of getting it ready for my wilderness adventures and that is on hold for now.

Another update. After my Bronco being at the dealer service center for almost a month, they are still waiting on a part. The fuel injectors arrived and are installed but the tube in the kit that connects the fuel rails was the wrong one. Now, they are trying to get that corrected.

My service writer originally saw that six injectors were being ordered and told told me all the injectors were being replaced. When I asked today if both the direct and port injectors were being replaced the truth came out. They are replacing six injectors but they are the direct and port injectors in cylinders 1, 2 and 3. Which makes sense being those were the cylinders that were misfiring.

I asked what the confidence level was that this will fix the problem. They did not have an answer for that. I am back in wait mode.

Apparently, Ford is confused about what parts fit on their engines. My Ford dealer is trying to work with Ford Engineering to figure out what tube (a one time use item) to use for one that connects the fuel rails. I think that since the 2.7L Ecoboost engine has been around many years it would be a simple thing to figure out. Are there really that many different tubes to connect the fuel rails for that engine?

Still in wait mode.

Oh man that sucks. @Ducati1098 can probably take the mystery out of the connector tube correct part number. Hope they get you figured out soon.

After over 5 weeks, I am still without my Bronco. I called the service writer today to get an update and was told they still don't have the right part for the fuel rail connection tube. Apparently, they have tried two different ones and they don't fit. It seems Ford Engineering does not have an answer.

At this point I was at the end of my patience and decided to call Ford Customer Assistance and insist they get me to someone that can get someone moving on my problem. I had to get transferred several times to get to the right person and was not going to settle for "Sorry for your Inconvenience".

I finally got to a couple of very nice ladies and one (in the Passenger Vehicle Concerns Dept.) convinced me she is going find out what is going on and is going to report back to me. She called my service writer while was on the phone to get all the information they had so she would know exactly where to go. After I hung up with her, my Service Writer called me and thanked me for calling Ford and felt it was going to help get the correct Bronco parts.

I told everybody I talked to at Ford that I knew this engine had been out a long time and there is no excuse for them to be sending my Dealer wrong parts. They should know what parts go on it. I also told them, some one or people at Ford is/are not doing their job. I never yelled at anyone but was very persistent. I sure hope that works.

I am still in wait mode though, for now.
