As a kid growing up and becoming interested in car culture in the late 60’s/early 70’s, Ford was my brand. Jones was kicking ass in Baja, and my first ride in a Bronco was in 1970. I will never forget it: white roof over boxwood green, V-8, silver grill. I was lucky enough to get a golden ticket for a Raptor from a dealership that sold it to me for MSRP. The Raptor humbly owes its lineage to its forebear Big Oly and its legendary driver, Parnelli Jones- a fact that I never forget when I drive my Bronco and the kid in me, who once dreamed of racing Baja, is transported to another time and place.

Watched him race at Green Valley Raceway, TX so many years ago. It was a drag strip that at the end had a loop back around to the start line. So it was a cool type of race where everyone went super fast down the strip and then tried to make the turns going back around.

In 1967, as part of his stock car contract with the Lincoln-Mercury division of the Ford Motor Company, Jones drove a Mercury Cougar for Bud Moore in the second-year Trans Am series In April, Jones dueled with teammate, friend and rival Dan Gurney in a brutal 300-mile (480 km), 4-hour event at Green Valley, Texas in 113-degree heat, losing by inches to Gurney.
