P139C 2.3 L

My Bronco just turned over 40,000 miles and check engine light came on. Hooked up my Auto Tap and code PO139C came up. EGR hose off or clogged? Anyone have any exxpierence with this? Funny aside just got a sales pitch from Ford in the mail today for Ford Protect its like they knew something was going to go wrong!

P0139 is an O2 Sensor code.

Most likely be a bad sensor, perhaps a “stuck” injector, maybe Cat related, or even spark plugs….

I’d swap the O2 sensors first if I was to start troubleshooting.

Thanks for your feedback. I may have read the code wrong I did a little looking in the Ranger 5G site and I read that there is a Ford only code P139C and it may be the DPFE sensor. I cleard the code so I will see if it comes back, Truck seems to run fine

Ford does have quite a few vehicle specific DTCs. Perhaps the C variant of the code is just that.

Have you got a catch can installed on your rig? What engine oil do you tend to use? Any Engine air intake mods?

No catch can installed and I use 5-30 synthetic oil and I change it way more often than I need to. I

Most likely a bad DPFE sensor. I did have a Bronco with 250 miles with a defective EGR tube, but I feel like that was just a fluke and it had a different code. Ford has been having issues with DPFE sensors on other vehicles, so without any diagnosis, that would be my guess.

EGR Sensor 'C' Downstream Hose Off or Plugged-
Sets when PCM detects the differential pressure indicated by the sensor exceeds a maximum threshold or falls below a minimum threshold. At idle, the EGR monitor commands the EGR valve closed and checks the differential pressure across the EGR tube orifice which should be zero to indicate the hoses are connected and not restricted.
Look for signs of water or icing in the hose. Verify the hose connection and routing. Check the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor for correct mounting and function.

The 0 in the title and initial post had me confused with P0139. Didn’t realize it was P139C…

Thanks for the info, I'm going to see if I can find the sensor and check it might be worth changing it if not too $. Over on the Ranger 5G site I saw several posts about this code but my truck seems to run fine.

Update I found a DPFE Sensor at Rock Auto for 14 bucks and ordered one, meanwhile I went out and started the Bronco up this morning and check engine light is off! Not sure if it will stay off but we will see.
