Oil temp after bumper swap

Hello. I did the capable to modular bumper swap last weekend and thought everything was okay. Twice since then my oil temp has been about 10-15 degrees higher than it has been before the swap. The intercooler shutters have been closed/open when I check them at different temps. Any thoughts?

Probably just a coincidence. Changing a bumper isn’t going to affect oil temperature.
Some days my oil temperatures are slightly higher than others

Hyjacking the thread here. When I swapped bumpers to aftermarket I removed the intercooler shutters assembly. Any real reason I should put it back? It doesn’t throw any codes, and I live in a warm climate.

No, I wouldn’t worry about removing them as long as it’s not causing a condensation issue. Which I’m sure you would’ve noticed already if it was.

I didn't think going to the modular would affect it. I've been in the upper 190's for oil and upper 180's for transmission since I bought it 10 months ago. When it hit 217 for oil and 203 for transmission Monday I freaked out.

Those are normal temps. Don’t know what the Bronco has such a big band for oil temp but it does - seems to be 190-220F for me. Some people have seen over 230 and dealers seem ok with it

Agree these temps are normal. Mine has hit as high as 225 at highway speeds, without AC on. Having the AC on will drop the temperature to around 215. I'm assuming the cooling is a side effect of the cooling fan running constant.

Ohh man, that’s nothing.

When off-roading and in either 4H or 4L, my Trans temp can hit 220, so 203 is nothing. These transmissions run hotter, so the transmisison fluid is able to handle it.

From what I’m told, this new fluid isn’t technically cooking until you get closer to 300 which was unheard of in the old 6 speed days or older.

For Oil temps I hit 200s as well, but I also use full synthetic, which helps. A little more expensive, but worth it.

I’m also in a hot climate.

It really depends on how long the temperature is sustained.
The overtemp warning will come on at ~270, but really anything over 240 for period of time is going to start causing damage IMO

I did an interstate run through the desert for … hours. 80MPH+ from El Paso to Barstow, right through some of the hottest places in the Mojave. It was like 117F out.

Oil temp never got above 215F. AC was definitely on.

Now, that was at 80MPH so the air speed definitely helped some, that isn’t the same as crawling over the same terrain with just the fan moving air.

I monitor when off-road and usually switch to manual shifting when the temp gets to around 210. It's only gone above 220 twice and I stopped and rested for 15 mins each time. These were last year when I thought it was cooking the fluid.

Trail rides in the Summer months seem to be the worst, but temp goes up in cooler temps as well, just not as high.

I know lower airflow off-road at slower speeds may be a factor. When back on pavement in 2H, temp drops quickly back to under 200.

Mine went up about 5 degrees when running on the freeways after putting the Westin bumper on, but only in the cooler months. Clearly there is a bit of an airflow difference between that and the factory capable bumper.

In the summer time, the A/C fan keeps it right were it's always been in the 195-200 range, and up to about 205 when diving up the gradual slope of the 101 or 51 at traffic speeds (75-80mph around here - doing the 65 speed limit on the freeway can get you shot!)

Cooling fan will not even come on until around 235 if you don't have the A/C on. This results in the oil temp actually being cooler in the blast furnace months and warmer during the winter months! My superduty was the same way.
