I was scheduled to attend the Off Roadeo even in Tennessee. Due to the hurricane in NC, VA and Tennessee and other areas I was needed more at home than I needed to be at the event in Tennessee. They refused to refund me my monies that I had paid. All they (the powers that be over the Roadeo) did was look at the roads getting me to the event -- nothing more. No refunds and it was not even considered. Very saddened by their lack of concern over this situation.

Seeing as though the last thread on this got shut down and removed this should be a good time! Get your comments in quickly tho.

In summary to save everyone some time - the old thread was a mix of whining about not getting a refund when the OP cancelled their own trip to TN despite agreeing to a pretty black and white policy on cancellations and then a few whining back trying to bring shame to the Ford/OR apologists for pointing out the above. It was a good time.

No dog in this fight personally although I do live squarely in the affected area in WNC

He figured the other guy got his money back, so he might as well try the same tactics, too. ;)

No, I did not figure the other guy got his money back. I just wanted to share my bad experience with the Off Roadeo folks. Each situation should and must be treated differently. That is my biggest beef. They only looked at the roads that would have taken me there and they did not look at nor examine my particular situation. I just wanted to put light on the bad decision making of the Off Roadeo powers that be. That is all! Simple!

Listen, I couldn't care any less about the folks that run offroadeo and for all I know they're crooks. That said I googled their policies and am wondering if you tried to reschedule per their option to do so for a small fee?

In their defense you could get there but chose not to - and in your defense you felt called to be elsewhere (don't blame ya at all) in the aftermath of a disaster. The happy medium is them accomodating that for a small charge. To me that seems fair but maybe I'm missing something.

It's like when the dentist says they will charge you for a no-show. They are reserving a spot for you, and it's a spot that could have gone to someone else. The choice is to guarantee a spot and have a cancelation policy or book like the airlines do and when too many people show up, tell some of them they don't get to participate. Option three would be to charge enough extra to cover the no-shows, but to me, the price is already high enough. So the way they are doing it is the best. That means that some people will end up in a circumstance where they can't use what they paid for. On the business side of things, I've always believed that if I am given enough time to fill that voided spot, I'm more flexible about working with the customer. So, even if my policy says exactly how things work, I can bend the rules depending on the circumstances. But that means telling me a month before, not a week before.

The Texas Off Roadeo was outstanding. Super professional folks, a great education and an absolute blast. Shout out to Big Al!! He was the best.
In fact, I intend to go back for a half day sometime.

With that being said I almost didn't go. Similar situation in Texas; storm headed in (Beryl). I wasn't happy with res from the start (supposed to be free but I had to pay $150 to hold the spot) and then sale final on guests was a bit of a head scratcher (they occupy the same vehicle, so you would think that would be no big deal to change). I think the folks have some leeway, but I never expected a refund; they did work with me on a reschedule.
And the $150 res charge did come back a week or so after I attended.

Anyway, for me I am glad I stuck with it. It was a helluva lot of fun...
