Do I need an analog tach? No.

What did you tap into to get a reading? Does the dashboard tach still operate?

Here's a blurry vid of the tach. It's paired with a cheap Amazon Bluetooth dongle in the OBDII port. The app will run many more systems. You have to set up screens the way you want them.

I get how it works now. My brain was stuck in the days when a "square" cable was fed from the engine block to the actual tach. (Hence the analog part .) I guess electronics have taken over again!

It has been so long since we could even buy a manual transmission vehicle, and now I realize that I miss an analog tach.

I would also prefer a stand-alone tach instead of using my phone. I guess it would need to be a Bluetooth enabled tach.

Does anyone have a link or recommendation?

I did the same thing only display it on my dash screen. Just getting it customized now. Was wondering which gauges people find most useful.

The one thing that I like to see that I can't get on the IPC is Battery SOC, but you don't really need a real-time value while driving.

Learned Knock Mod is interesting to see, but again, isn't really useful real-time while driving. Really super helpful if you are running any sort of tune, or want to know if you'd get any performance gain out of a better grade fuel (or blending E85)

Ignition Timing Advance might be helpful if you are doing time trials or something, but as far as real time data for day to day or trail driving, not really all that helpful - just neat to know. Intake Air Temp 1/2 are nice to have for for the same reason. As is Calculated Load Value.

For Auto transmissions - the actual freakin' gear the transmission is in might be kinda neat to know

Fuel pressure may be good with the fuel pump recall going on.

Just some ideas.

I’ve fooled around with different configurations to get the right setup for my driving style and poor near-eyesight. I think the new AigMex thing will put my extra iPod or Android thing in the right spot where I sometimes keep a limited HUD like this for RPM mainly.

Yes I’m 10S automatic, but call it a (former) aviator thing or just having for a long time driven crappy cars on the brink of engine failure, I’m always scanning the gauges and comparing the data to the actual feel of the vehicle I’m driving, particularly under load/off road. Including RPM nowadays when I’m manually shifting and you can’t hear or feel the engine/gears till they wind way up.

I‘m over all the oil pressure reading infatuation, after watching my FS Lite indication dance all over the place the way these engines manage OP at different speeds. The info is meaningless to me, unless it goes to zero - and the 2.7L will tell me that soon enough. Tach, temps, SOC, IAT 1/2, and gear number (winding up or down narrow muddy trails, manually shifting by button and can’t hear the revs, I like to see the gear). My JB4 tuner has all this including gear (except 10 for some reason but IDGAF about that), so I’ll get it set up and report back.

@8rent - I did not see in the thread, what Android app is that? Those gauges are easy to read and ell laid out. I’ve tried a bunch off my App Store and many just make it seem like I’m playing Defender or something. These look automotive-oriented.

@8rent and @Murraydog11 - I did not see in the thread, what Android app is that? Those gauges are easy to read and ell laid out. I’ve tried a bunch off my App Store and many just make it seem like I’m playing Defender or something. These look automotive-oriented.

The app is Torque Pro. Costs $5. There is free version called Torque lite. It is android only. It is specifically for automotive use. Does all DTC reading and clearing as well as readiness monitoring, but I am just using it for Displaying parameters that don't have a gauge on the bronco.

This pic reminds me. One thing I will add now that I saw the pic, and had forgotten - the reason for a HUD is I can’t see the display and scan my gauges when the wheel is turned over (airbag/horn block). So whether the OEM cluster is good or not, I miss my readings at times I can get a glance at them depending on steering wheel position. Think about it when your wheeling gets crazy and sustained.

With the right HUD setup, the other trick is to real time record values, or be able to hit “log” if things look weird.

I have been studying Banks for a while, A pillar or vent mount display
- mounted left it’s natural for my eyes to quick-glance at as needed and can include logging too - but the font is too small for my vision to quickly evaluate. I have these cheap split-reader sunglasses I’ve been experimenting with off road (I’m easy to see far unaided, need vision help in close in for maps and gauges until my eyes adjust) and it’s a step in the right direction. For one number BIG I’m all for digital. But I’m leaning towards analog for and array of readings.

If your eyes are that bad, you need to get prescriptions.

I wear progressive lenses and have an astigmatism. I can read everything just fine, but slightly fuzzy without the glasses. Text is nice and crisp with them.

The nice thing about the dash mount I used is I could move the gauge to where it was ideal for me. The pod mounts on the A-pillar are a fixed location. The one in my F350 was just a bit off for me, so I ended up making a custom mount for the dash.
