I am excited to be headed to Las Vegas soon to hit the Off-Rodeo experience. I borrowed a GoPro from my son and purchased and magnetic camera mount for it. I had big plans to shoot video from all angles of the rig for a fun post-gig video.

Imagine my surprise when I first tried to put the magnetic mount on the door, then the front quarter panel and hood, and it didn't stick! I figured it was another
Amazon shady purchase. I was so angry! I tried almost every panel, including the tailgate.

But then . . . I tried it on the rear quarter panel and it stuck! Only then did a realize that all the other panels are aluminum and the magnet wouldn't work. I've done several test drive around the neighborhood and even bumped across a field to make sure it stuck, and it's good. I pretty strong magnet.

I realized that it's a newbie mistake and should have known right off that MOST of the panels are aluminum or plastic. I'm excited for the trip. If I get some good pics, I'll share.

PS - If I get a rig with a front license plate, that will be a cool angle too!

Won't work for a borrowed rig but could be a good option for your own truck -- if you're looking for an in-cab mount @BROADDICT has a nice dash multi-mount that includes a GoPro adapter. It's towards the front of the dash in this pic:

Keeps it mounted while driving and still accessibly removable for handheld shots.

I've found it to be pretty useful, especially when off-roading and/or towing. I have the display for the trailer's rear-facing camera mounted here along with GMRS radio and cell phone:

Just something that's worked out well for me. I like the clever solutions companies have come up with for these trucks :)

I Have a suction cup mount that would work, I used it on my Donzi (fiberglass), worked great.
I thought about the suction cup mount, but I haven't had any luck with any kind of suction device. OK, I just walked right into that one).

Yup learned a similar experience when I wanted to mount a magnetic fly rod mount to the side of my bronco. Even though it mounts on the rear quarter panel, the fender flares don't allow the pole to get close enough to the fender. And as you pointed out, magnets don't work on the doors.

So I just continue to lean the rods against the Bronco and hope they don't slip and get crushed by a closing door or rear hatch...
