I would like some thoughts from those who off road in the south east US.

I have a stock 2024 Wildtrack that did not come with skids to cover the transmission or fuel tank, so I purchased and just installed basically the full kit from IAG.
While i am impressed with the quality of the IAG ones, I feel like i lost about 1.5-2 inch’s in clearance after putting them on.

Since I don’t plan on doing any rock crawling (other than the stray on a trails), and don’t want to lift it any, did i just make a mistake over OEM skid plates?

Your stock 2024 Wildtrak with the Fox shocks is already lower than the other SAS trims. Being that it's lower, unless you get it lifted, the plates are good because you will bottom out if on a trail with some good rocks. The extra weight of the ones you got might also lower the truck even more, depending if they are steel or aluminum. The cross bars are the lowest part and do need protection.

I ended up getting the stock ones where I could and the RCI one for the transmission/cross bars and have been happy, but I also got the Zone leveling kit which lifts thet ruck to where the other SAS trims are. I've been very happy with both and haven't bottomed out anywhere since the lift.

Hey there - I have the full set of IAG, minus the diff / LCA / rear shock skids. you indeed "lose" some clearance because of the diff and tranny skids. I put it in quotes because those skids line up with the height or clearance of the fuel tank and engine skids. so it all ends up being the same, where as before you had more clearance in the center front, you now have it about equal where you have skids.

I mentally struggled at first to accept that lower skid position. However, I DO crawl on rocks and I appreciate the confidence of all that 3/16" steel underneath. plus you get an early warning before a rock or trail obstacle comes at your rear diff. take a look from the rear and you'll see what i mean. You say you're just gunna run "trails", and not rock crawl. Well I'd say you have great protection for the trails. If you have a breakover clay hill that you rub on, fuck it. you're covered.

It’s all hypothetical clearance.

Yes, technically the distance between your belly and the ground got smaller. But only by a little. And the consequences of hitting something got a lot less severe. With skids you can just sled along the rocks all day long and not worry to much. With out them… you probably won’t have a fuel tank or transmission by the end of the day.

If you would've asked given the circumstances, I would've said go stock plates. But reasonably, it's not like you're scraping over rocks in a garden of misery. Those last inches matter when you're scraping hard on hard, in the southeast, you're probably fine. Please send any complaints for this advice to File 13 C/O Nobody in Particular.

Just got told today by the dealer that my gas tank is dented in, causing my fuel gauge “float” or whatever to fail. This was through my (now buckled) JCR armor. So I’ve done it all: added protection, lost clearance, gained capability, damaged the tank somewhat. Pretty much lines up along with everything else gone wrong on this truck so far, after pushing it a bit far on trails. YMMV!

Since being new into all of this, I appreciate all the good points everyone has added!

Now any input for lights in my module bumper? I do drive after dark at the hunt camp at night (hog hunting) and more light would help.

I was looking at Diode Dynamics but they are pricy for the bright ones…..

if you're looking to light the camp or trail, throw some KC daylites up on the top.

I have a 22 Wildtrak.. I've been adding skids here & there as I can.
Definitely need them if you're doing any real offroading.
I bent my fuel tank hanger bracket back quite a bit just by catching it on a high spot of mud/clay.
So even if you're not "rock crawling" it's good to have the skids. The trade off from clearance to protection isn't much & you can always get your clearance back with tires or lift.

For lights, I've got Diode Dynamics SS3, just the sport versions, & I've been very happy with them so far.

I put the IAG skids on my Wildtrak. I notice the lost clearance when on the trails, but with the thickness I am confident when scraping over those rocks. I’ve been happy with losing a bit of clearance in trade for peace of mind - I’m sure you will be, too.

Lights - I put some Baja Design fogs in the pocket of the modular bumper, and the Rigid ditch lights. I don’t do much night-time offroad travel, but the couple of times I used them they were sufficient.
