Thats way to big to be from any of the alphabet boys. No point in worrying about tracking devices anyway we’ve all had them with us since the first smart phone. And think of how many smart devices you have around at any given time. Now they can even tell if your brushing a full two minutes or not.

I believe it is a vehicle tracking device that allows the dealer/lender to shit off the vehicles ignition if you fall behind on payments. I've known a few people to have this happen to them, and you can look it up it is a real thing. I don't know if they only do it on "higher risk borrowers", or if it is on all financed vehicles, but hopefully mine will not have that thing.

I found a similar device in my wife's Honda CRV. Lots of pain involved - the car battery was dying, so after jumping the car my son and I drove down to the local parts store and installed a new battery - however the engine just wouldn't turn over even though all of the lights and the accessories worked. Eventually called a tow truck, which took it to the local Honda dealership. They couldn't figure it out what was wrong so they kept the car overnight. They eventually traced wiring from the battery & starter and found the black box - it had cut off power to the starter. Removing the battery had triggered the anti-theft functionality of the black box.

The service manager did us a solid: removed the device and didn't charge us a cent for all of his teams' work.

The box had no manufacturer name, just a number: 865100 0402. The F-150 forums had a thread about it - a GPS tracker that dealers use to prevent car theft from the dealer lots - and then sold as an anti-theft device to the car purchaser - yeah we got dinged back in 2018 by about $200 (cost of the device).

We did finance the CRV through dealer finance so that's probably why they left it installed. My wonderful Bronco 2-door BB MT HPR (love rowing those gears!) was financed by my CU - I handed my dealer a check from my CU along with my personal check for the down payment - so hopefully no such device was installed in my Bronco.

I pulled the trim under the steering wheel and found this mysterious black box. I did not see a ford part number on it and looks like it might have been added at the dealership. It doesn't look right because it looks like a posi-tap was used

Does anyone have any idea what this is? Maybe lo-jack?

You should have called in the Bomb Squad, and then let the dealership explain why it was there....

found this Asiatelco AT 10 GPS tracker under the drivers side carpet. Looks to be from the factory. Only had 2 wires running from the OBDII port, so it wasn't fully hooked up. Unplugged it and tossed into the glove box.

Looks like a tracker from a finance company. I helped many a young idiot private pulls those things out and toss them or wired into a dickhead PL’s blacked out riced and dropped charger with mismatched wheels and cheap LEDs that flicker and expired DOD from a different post.

Chalk up another one found this tonight on my 2023 badlands stashed behind the driver side kick panel would have never seen it if I weren't in the process of upgrading sound system getting ready to put kickers in kick panels. Between them trying to cram Alexa down our throats and every other intrusive way thought of I miss the 70s lol.

Are these being installed at the factory or at individual dealers?
