Nice and simple, love it! Cords dangling through a vehicle are the absolute worst

I did something very similar to this: I followed the advice of @Tricky Dick and drilled into the accessory ready mounting piece on the dash and ran a 3ft USB extension from that hole down to the port you plugged into. I have the end of the cable coming out immediately above the port and just enough slack for it to go in without any wiggle room - I can’t even see it

I wasn't ready to commit to drilling into the dash. And I for the life of me could not get the HVAC controls out. Watched a video on YouTube showing how to remove the dash. The HVAC unit is held in by two screws and clips. I removed the screws and got the side clips off, but the top of the unit would not come free. Luckily I was able to feed the cable down with the hero switch module removed and the bottom panel under the HVAC flipped down.

I had the same issues with getting the top of the HVAC panel out - I’ve taken it out 4 times now and it doesn’t get any easier, not sure what’s different about those clips up there… pretty much just sucked it up and yanked straight towards myself with hands on both sides near the top (as close to the clips as my fingers could get) and it popped out aggressively - somehow didn’t break it

Feeding the cable is by far the worst part from where I started

That's why I mounted it in the accessory piece. A small part to replace if it came down to it and no modifying the actual dash.

I went thru the same hell when I did my amp install. try breaking the top free first, and *then* pull the sides out. Seems counterintuitive, but otherwise the top binds up against the upper panel when the sides are free

I never did get it out. I was afraid I was going to break it. Bad thing is I can't get the bottom clip back in now.

I actually lucked out (dumb luck) quite by accident. I had the hero switch module out and dropped the wingnut from my mount down the hole. Heard it drop to the bottom. Opened the bottom panel below the HVAC and there it was. Realized there was an obvious path. So after a few tries I was able to use a feeder to get the cable through.

Yeah it's not the prettiest. But at least the charging cable isn't hanging down in front of the dash. Which drives me nuts.
