The 37" KO2s on the Raptor are 'C' load rating and probably one of the lightest 37" (ish) tires on the market. I want something more aggressive and closer to size, so I have been on the hunt for something different.

I came across the 37x12.5 Mickey Thompson Baja Legend MTZ. This tire is 70lbs- very close to the BFG- and only set for 50psi (also similar to KO2), but is D rated. I wanted to see if anyone had real world experience with this tire- on/off road. How does it handle on the road, is it closer to actual size than the BFG? Other than being an MT, how is the ride quality.

I know its an MT, which will not wear as well, likely track every crack in the road and will be loud...

Not quite the same tire but I have the EXPs and have been happy with them. Haven’t had issues with any of the things you mention, and just crossed 25k miles with them. They are on track to probably hit 50k if they keep wearing at a steady rate.

Noise level won’t equate exactly since the EXPs are supposed to be a bit more tame than the MTZs but they ride nice on the highway - and despite that no issues off road or in the mud (been in a good bit of that this spring). A little squirrelly in snow though, but they aren’t a snow tire.

I run the Baja ATs for this very reason and they are warrantied for 50k. Yes its a hybrid AT/MT best of both worlds IMO and if you need its snow rated. A MT 37 will make the KO2 look very small.

I wish they offered the Baja ATs in a 39 or 40".

What are the differences between the Baja MT and the Legend MTZ?

Not because I don’t like them, but rather because I’ve been so impressed with MT:

My next tire will likely be a Baja Boss AT for the snow performance. That was the only thing I don’t like about my current Legend EXPs.

The Legend is supposed to be more of a ā€œhybridā€ on road / off road tire - but I’ll be damned if I can find any compromise they have made. They seem to run as well as any other AT off road tire - I imagine MTZ would line up versus other MT mud tires.

Just looking at them side by side - the MT has a bit wider tread pattern than the EXP and more aggressive side wall biters. The only thing I don’t see on the MT/MTZ are a mileage guarantee.

Good to hear the love on Baja AT’s from my BRaptor bro’s. Putting them on my (very) short list for the next round of shoes…
