How did retooling happen so quickly???
It didn’t, same tooling same top company.
only change Ford made volume of plastic injection into the molding.
Still when and how do you know this is what happened..... all we know for sure is what the hardtop sticker says.... primer applied...

Pretty standard sandwich panel construction, if you don't like this don't fly on any plane or helicopter.
Or ride on fiberglass boats or in RVs.

As others mentioned, as long as it's properly sealed and protected, the material in the core is pretty irrelevant. At issue is whether the core on MIC 1.0 and 2.0 is sealed and protected. Clearly in 1.0 it was not. 2.0 remains to be seen, but it's not looking good.

boxer4's link in post 16 gives a great explanation of how and why they're built this way.

Contracted, it's a webasto made top. But yeah I agree...
99% of the vehicle is contracted - Ford is still responsible for approving the designs

The more I look at the top, the more I think that the interior structure is Nomex. Even though this top was MIC 1.0 it didn't have any deamination issue, and the customer had no issues with the appearance or functionality of the top. Just like @Dragline mentioned, the interior structure of the top is irrelevant as long as it is sealed properly.

Absolutely it's overall Ford's responsibility, but I don't like to let the tier 1 and 2 suppliers off the hook when it's their poor quality that is the cause. Trust me and as you probably know all too well - Ford is back charging these suppliers for quality, production quantity and dates not met, etc.

Hello! My store recently replaced a MIC 1.0 top for one of our customers, and part of the replacement process required us to cut up the old top panels. Would anyone be interested in seeing the inside of the MIC top?

Edit: Below are some pictures that I took of the MIC 1.0. After inspecting the top and seeing just how thin that outer shell is, I can see why the honeycomb structure of the top was showing through when exposed to extreme heat/moisture.

Any chance you can show cross section cuts through the "roof rack" mounting areas if you still have the roof available? If 4dr roof cut at both mounting sections.

Ford is charging how much for this? Lol

The first 3rd party hard top to market will be the winner of this debacle. Especially for all the people who converted to a soft top to get their Bronco faster.

I think the confusing part for me is why not just make a single-layer fiberglass top? Maybe reinforce the edges where the roof rack connects and put some decent insulation inside. Why does it need to be a composite sandwich?

Full disclosure, I know nothing about tops so there may be an easy answer to this.
