Hey guys!

Been a while since I've done anything stupid so figured I'd swing by.

I've committed to leaving the entire top off for the summer. I'm driving 3 hours round trip tomorrow into the mountains to check out a new camping spot for a trip next week and it's looking like it's supposed to rain the entire time. Will the mesh Bimini do anything to keep my dry while I'm driving?

The long and the short - no.

last year, I got caught out in a torrential downpour in the Bronco with my bikini top, and the interior got soaked.

No. Might as well have nothing on there.

I only put the mesh mini bimini on the removeable front panels on my 2 door when there is no rain forecast. Interior could get really soaked otherwise and it's not that quick to change from mesh to the tops. And in the 2 door there is not much room to store the tops so I leave them home.

Camp dry the entire mesh? (and I mean soak it!). Then buy a tarp and use it as part of the camping spot.(18x20 use bungees to secure it, and a couple of posts.). Then bring along a small tarp and bungees to makeshift a soft top if all else fails... I used to do this in the summer on my 82 bronco.

No actually, its mesh, so its like a screen, if it rains, you're going to get wet lol also its a Bimini, it only covers above your head so doors on or off, you're going to feel the rain come in.

I hope you find a camping spot though, sounds like it'll be a good time!

That sounds like a soggy situation — definitely not the kind of “open-air” experience anyone’s hoping for!

While our Bikini tops offer great protection from the sun (think shade, not shelter), they’re not designed to keep out rain — torrential or otherwise. They're more of a “beach day” solution than a “monsoon prep” one. 🌦

Agreed! But rain aside, Bimini tops are pretty nice. I have dogs that I take with me often, so having the Bimini top to help block out some of the sun while still enjoying the open top feel, is helpful especially to my dogs, so the sun isn’t beating down directly on them😁
