Wife's 2022 bronco has 12k miles on it and it's been losing coolant. It is a very slow Leak. There is no evidence of an external leak. Doesn't seem to be in the oil either. No white smoke pouring out of the exhaust but I think that's because it's so slow.

Anyway. Called the dealer and they said they can't get it in until mid March. Does that seem crazy considering this is a warranty issue and it can cause engine failure if left until March.

Until March ?? How is that even possible, I would be finding another dealer

I am having my transmission replaced, from making the appointment to getting it back it will have been less than 2 weeks

Might be unrelated, but I've had three vehicles in the past 10 years have slow leaks / loss of coolant. Every time it has been the radiator cap. That was one two Toyotas and one Subaru. I monitored at first and replaced on a regular basis and then swapped with new caps and that fixed it.

My '22 Bronco hasn't had any coolant loss issues.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Have you had any resolution? I am noticing same thing at 15k. 2.7 engine. No radiator cap in this scenario as it’s all closed up as far as I can tell. I read manual and it was written in a way that made it sound that small loss is normal, which I don’t believe. But it said something like “if you have to add more than 1 quart per month, get service” mines def less than that it seemed low at my 15k oil change and has to add prob half a quart. I had never noticed it low before

I've had to add a bit of coolant to mine (5oz. or so), but nothing drastic IMO.

Just so it has been asked, were you checking the reservoir level while the vehicle is cold? Sounds like you have already checked the hoses for leaks and looked at the oil. Do you run the defroster and notice film buildup on the windshield?

Yes I've been tracking it. I have other pics showing the decline. No build up on windshield.
I also had to top off to cold max level a couple times during first 1k miles but steady since, at 3k miles now.
This has 12k miles on it and has been steadily declining

I searched for a coolant loss thread and this seemed to be the only one I had found. I know its been about 18 months since anyone has posted, but

What would be acceptable coolant loss? I have the 2.7 and had to add about 8 to 10 ounces each oil change (about every 8 months).

I am going to be monitoring this closer now by taking photos each month or so of the tank.

In other vehicles I have not had to add much in the course of a year, however I have read the 2.7 seems to need more than others as it cools the exhaust manifolds to "warm up" the turbos.

Just curious as to what others have seen for "normal coolant loss"

Thanks

Engines shouldn't lose any appreciable amount of coolant - it's a closed system with a pretty small vent. Maybe once over a few years would you have to add anything to them.

Now, there are a couple of exceptions.

After an initial fill (say, after you flush the system or you did some work) - there will be air pockets. As those work their way out, you will see the level in the expansion tank drop and you will have to add some to make it up. That shouldn't take long though - 30 minutes of running or so and all the air should be out by then.

If you overfill them, they will leak some through the vent when they get hot, and may drain a bit excessively when they do so. So that would be one thing I would check - make sure when you are adding coolant the system is cold, and you aren't going past the MAX line.

If you are certain you aren't overfilling, it's either a small leak and dripping onto the ground (dangerous to animals), in the cab (heater core), or there's a small leak in your engine and you are burning it. Get a thing of UV dye to throw in there and that may help identify where it's going.

Thanks for the reply @Brian_B . I am going to have to be spending a bit more time monitoring this. I have 1 year left on my warranty so I want to get it dialed in before it expires if there is some kind of issue. I will start taking some photos with the phone and a ruler every few weeks.

This is my first 2.7 and I was reading it does have some issues coolant wise, just curious as to what others have seen on other broncos.
