I’ve had AMP PowerStep running boards on my Bronco for about three years. They’ve been okay, but I’m getting tired of the issues:

  • They get out of sync or jam with dirt and need constant adjustment
  • They’ve developed a squeal when retracting
  • Overall maintenance has become a PITA
I’m ready to move on — either to Rock Slide Engineering retractable steps or to traditional rock sliders with usable step space.

I’d really appreciate real‑world feedback from anyone who has experience with Rock Slide Engineering:

  • Are they quiet when operating?
  • How sturdy are they as actual protection?
  • How long have you used them, and how have they held up?
If you’re running rock sliders instead, I’d also love recommendations for brands that offer enough room to function as a step.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

I have the rock slide steps. I enjoy having them. Passenger side no issues since install in 2023.
Driver side deploys but sometime doesn't retract. I contact Rock Slide Eng, I received no response. My fix is I duct taped a magnet to the sensor so it doesn't deploy. This is working for me because I am tall and don't need the step. I have plenty of gashes from using them on the trail and they are doing the rock slide things. I wish I could turn on only one side at a time so I could lose the duct taped on magnet. I think I have a weak sensor, but I haven't been able to find the part.
I still think they are great.... and would buy again

I’ve had rock side engineering power steps on two vehicles. If you plan on doing a little bit of bashing or using them as rock sliders, you 100% have to buy rock slide engine engineering power steps with a DOUBLE WALL option. In my opinion the Amp steps ( strictly for the street only ) are way way higher quality than rock slide engineering and Amp has way better mechanical components. On my rock slide engineering power steps I have replaced three motors and other electrical components……. Once again, if you plan on doing a little bit of bashing or more, you need to buy rock slide engineering DOUBLE WALL power steps. P.S. Jeeps gone as of 3 months ago. New 26 Raptor….. studying all my options on the power steps. We have had power steps on the last eight vehicles.

I decided to install the RockSlide Engineering Steps on my 24 Bronco SAS after seeing a Bronco at the Tennessee Bronco Event this year. I have not been offroading with it yet but Im feeling very cautious next time I go off roading. The driver side I find has had more issues and I would imagine its due to its use more than the other doors. The magnet on the door I feel is pretty flimsy attached with 3m tape. It has needed to be reinstalled 3 times already since May. When the rime comes I feel I will be shopping for true rocksliders with a fixed step. Just my 2 cents, hope it helps

I've had my Rockslide steps for almost 5 years. Other than hitting the moving joints a couple times a year with WD-40, they have been totally maintenance and problem free. I don't bounce off rocks, so I can't speak to that, but I highly recommend.

I've had the RockSlide steps on my Bronco for 3 years with no issues at all. I initially got them for my 5'2" wife but I use them everyday myself and glad I installed them. They probably hang down as much or lower than any other step which makes getting in/out a lot easier. I will open the doors and then flip the override switch so that they stay down when I close the doors then I can wash the mud out from inside every so often. Other than that I have not done a thing to them. They are also quite and I have to really listen for the thud when they close to make sure they did in fact retract. I have scraped them on a few rocks but a quick touch up from a can of Rust Oleum truck bed spray fixes them right up. I would definitely choose them again.
