I was wanting to see if anyone knows any company that has developed side mounts for Jerry cans / rotopax? I am not a fan of mounting near or on the spare tire. I’ve looked through the threads and haven’t really seen it. Most threads are about the rear hinge or on the spare tire itself. The closest I have seen is the image below. I would love to see a mount similar to this that is not dependent on a roof rack. Thanks in advance.

You would need some sort of roof rack or strap support system that stretches over top of the Bronco. There reason why is there is nothing for a side-mounted rack to bolt onto on the Bronco's hard-top.

BUT you don't need a full rack, you could use a half-rack if you don't want the fully rack. TrailRax does sell a half-rack with the side mounts (which they call Pak Rak).

I actually Been thinking about this particular rack but I’m not sure I want to commit to it when there may be other racks down the road. I’m assuming this rack could support various different roof top tents? I appreciate you getting the info so quickly!

The half-rack is too small to support most roof-top tents. It would be good if you wanted to mount some gear to the roof, like a Pelican or a ROAM case, or maybe some recovery gear, but that's about it. BUT, if you go with the half-rack kit you can still remove many of the roof panels, which is awesome.

The full-rack (which is the image you posted originally) will definitely support a wide variety of roof-top tents. The obvious downside is you won't be able to remove the roof panels while the rack is on.

If you do go with TrailRax, they have a sale going on right now on their website. And if you are a Bronco Nation member, they offer membership discounts on the Bronco Nation Gear website for both TrailRax and ROAM gear. I personally ordered a full-rack TrailRax kit from Bronco Nation for almost $250 off that should be arriving this Wednesday.

This is true. It is a nice rack and I had no idea about the discounts. I’ll need to get on that. Thank you!

I've been looking at the Pak Rak as well, but it isn't clear if it will mount to the factory rack or just their rack. It doesn't look like it will, but thought I'd throw the question out there.

Just their rack. It'll also mount to most other aftermarket "overlanding" racks--such as the JCR rack--with some minor modifications. Most of these racks use standard mounting hardware, which is awesome. (That said, I think JCR has their own side-mount rack, so probably makes sense to just buy that if you have the JCR rack.)

The factory rack doesn't use standard mounting hardware, and even if they did... the 4-door roof rack isn't long enough anyway. Both Yakima and Thule also use non-standard mounting hardware as well so they can lock you into their "rack ecosystem". Granted, Yakima builds adapters for just about everything on the planet, but I don't think any of their adapters will help you mount a Pak Rax to the factory rack. (I suspect Thule also has tons of adapters, but I'm not familiar with their stuff.)

I hadn’t ran into the JCR one, but it looks nice and definitely would be a runner up when I make a decision. I won’t get my vehicle until March 2023 (I believe) so looking now and hoping other things come out too (or at least announced)

I think @justinbmcbride did a review of the TrailRax system as well as the company itself. From what I understand they're a reputable company out of UT and if you want you can stop by the store and pick up.

What I don't know is if they make the rack in the US. I see a lot of similar looking láser cut alloy systems like the JRC.

I believe it's mixed. Some of the materials come from the states (most of the aluminum components), but some of the other hardware and fasteners do not.

I would assume that there is enough from the United States to earn the "Made in the USA" label, but admittedly I don't know the regulations/laws are on that. Mine arrives today though, so I'll update the post if it says either way on the box/manual.

I just looked it up and the bar is actually pretty high now, >50% has to be made in the USA to get the sticker. It does make sense that fasteners would be made outside the USA. I can't see a CNC swiss screw machine making its cost back here.

I would love an update on the installation and ease of removing the front roof panels post install.

I have an update in regard to this. I got an email from Trailrax:

“The stand alone design and offering will be available in the spring 2023.”

So I am assuming this will not rely on the partial rack up top. This may be a true standalone. What do y’all think?

They have a stand alone for the Jeeps, so it makes sense they'd do one for the Broncos. They're just working from most in demand to least in demand.

Quick update on this… it is indeed labeled “Made in America”.

I was delayed a few days thanks to crappy winter weather, but warmish and sunny today. Looks like the hard top itself needs to be removed to install the Pak Rax, so not sure if I’ll be able to do that by myself, but I’ll see if my neighbor is around. (Wife is only 4’11” so she is no help unfortunately.)

And… game over.

My package is missing the hardware/fastener kit, so I’ll have to contact support and get that sorted out. Won’t happen today given the holiday/weekend so time to pack it up for now. Forecast for next weekend is more crappy weather, so may be a few weeks before I can get this installed (sorry @Gabby).

Other than the obvious disappointment of missing pieces… initial impressions are pretty good. Powered coating and material quality is solid, seems like a very robust rack. Much better than the OEM roof rack I sold to help pay for this rack. Only downside is it seems all of the fasteners use SAE sizes rather than metric. Probably won’t bother most people, but that’s a personal pet peeve of mine since literally everything on the Bronco itself is metric.
