Some of that is likely the pressure vent that all vehicles have so your ears don't pop when you close the doors. I'm not going to speculate on what's what, though.

I bet it is *not*. Sub would add weight to the tailgate, that I’m sure they’re already concerned about carrying the load of the tire.

Additionally, the Wrangler (my JK at least) has basically the exact same type of thing on it.
