Is this a transmission issue?

Edited 4/6 to add additional information that I’ve since realized:
(1) My Bronco consistently shifts rough from 1st to 2nd gear
(2) The auto on/off has become permanently disabled and the dashboard warning light for this will display/not display randomly while I’m driving.

I want to preface this by saying I’m a recent widow (so lots of brain fog) and my husband always handled our vehicle maintenance.

I was just at a stop light. When the light turned green, I put my foot on the gas. My engine revved but my car barely moved forward. It was like I was in neutral. Thankfully my Bronco recovered just as I crawled to the curb and I was able to make it home. I do recall that a few times in that my car has “chugged” a few times when changing gears.

I have a service appointment on April 11, but I was hoping someone could explain what they think happened and if I should not drive my Bronco until my appt. Do you think this is something that would be covered by warranty? Will Ford provide a loaner car? (Fingers crossed for yes)

I have a 23OBX w tow pkg. 9 months old with 8200 miles. 2.3 engine. It’s not a Sasquatch.

Sorry for your loss. I know the auto trans can have random hick-ups (all are prone to them). I've had a similar incident where I gassed it from a stop and it froze up for a few seconds. Chances are it is OK if it drove home like normal.

Sorry to hear about your loss but one thing I can tell you is you’re in the right place. ppl here are super helpful and some are actual techs and service pros. As far as the Bronco, has this happened only that one time? From your description, it might be a transmission issue but I’m not 100% sure so I’ll let others chime in instead of speculating. As far as fixing it, yes it should still be covered under warranty if the part spontaneously failed as long as you haven’t done any modifications on your Bronco because the warranty tends to void if you’ve done mods to the suspension, engine, etc..

As far as the loaner, they might say no but don’t be afraid to make a big deal out of it. For context, I thought I heard a weird noise few days after picking up my Bronco last month so I took it to the dealership. They said they were a week behind so I had to leave it and of course they said they didn’t have loaners so I asked to speak to the manager who was very nice and ended up giving me a brand new escape off the lot as a loaner so you might need to work your way into one. Some dealers might tell you to rent a car and they’ll reimburse but I’d be careful with that

These forums have been incredible. I met quite a few people in my build week group so I instantly thought to come here when this happened.

I’ve had two instances prior to today when my Bronco was very rough when it changed gears. Both within the past month. I had a very old truck years ago that would do that so I’ve been cautious.

I’ve made no modifications to my vehicle and it’s not been driven anywhere that could damage the undercarriage.

If it neutraled at a stop light that's absolutely tranny related. Should be warranty, but if it's real intermittant be prepared for the "couldn't duplicate". ask them to, at the very least, check the fluid level. Sorry about your husband...I lost my girlfriend to cancer a couple years back and I know that changes your whole life around!
