Only the ipads with cellar service ability have dedicated GPS.I went with the RAM mount, claw, and tablet holder. Works well but my tablet doesn’t get gps offline. Haven’t figured out how to get that to work.

CMM OFFROAD FORD BRONCO HARD TOP PANEL BALL MOUNT
BULLETPOINT - Micro Carbon Fiber/Kevlar Hybrid Mount Arm - Matte Finish
BULLETPOINT - Tablet Holder - Compatible with iPad, iPad Mini and Samsung Tablets
Your solution is probably the most cost effective one......I just tried grabbing my 10+ year old ipad mini and my eyesight is just terrible....For the arm I use a Mini (9cm | 3.54") I did have to convert one of the Flange Sockets from a 20mm to a 1” ball end.

I have a WiFi plan in the Bronco so I hook it up with the WiFi an it’s good to go.
I use a iPad mini 6th gen that’s 8.3-inch (diagonal) display the BULLETPOINT mount is adjustable, expands from 4.75" to 9.25".
So I ONLY need to buy an ipad that is Cellular capable and NO cell plan at all? How would my ipad connect to the OnX servers? needs internet right? You don’t have to have a cellular plan for the GPS to work offline, it just has to be cellular capable. For some reason they don’t put a gps receiver in the WiFi only models.
It will work like the WiFi only models. You’ll just need to download everything over WiFi before going off grid. The gps will then work with the OnX app. Kinda the same as in a no cellular area even if you had a plan. Will even work on an airplane. So I ONLY need to buy an ipad that is Cellular capable and NO cell plan at all? How would my ipad connect to the OnX servers? needs internet right?
Thank you VERY MUCH for this tip. This is what I use with my iPad mini

Remove OEM hardware and install mount. The only tuff part is get the torq right so the latch works with ease and the right pressure on the panel.Good luck you got this.Thank you VERY MUCH for this tip.
I ordered one from CMM. A very nice product delivered really fast.
Dumb question. An easy install? No instructions either in the envelope or at CMM. I'm asking b/c I want to install tomorrow and it will be raining. Hoping that I don't have to take the panel out (and the roof rack off); hoping it's just a remove OEM fastener and install ball mount.
Appreciate any tips you can send my way. Even if it's as simple as, "hey dummy, just remove OEM hardware and install mount." That works, too.
Cheers.
What version of the iPad mini are you using? Thanks.I have an iPad mini mounted on an Archetype Racing “The” D grab handle using a RAM Mount EZ-Rollr’ case. I use the iPad for my JB4 tune, OnX, Gaia GPS and other maps.

I bought my iPad Air 4th Gen without cellular capability. The GPS in it works fine when off road.Only the ipads with cellar service ability have dedicated GPS.
That’s interesting as Apple says the WiFi only iPads don’t have dedicated gps functions, as well as every reference I can find. The only way it should give a location is if it’s receiving a WiFi signal for triangulation.I bought my iPad Air 4th Gen without cellular capability. The GPS in it works fine when off road.
It’s also great for streaming live video/TV from a Starlink internet device.
