I noticed the hood stops that hold the position of the hood when closed are free rotating. Is this normal? It seems that can result in the adjustment up and down would be easily go out of proper adjustment.

On my 2002 Ranger they are hard to turn and one time I found they had moved some on a long off-road adventure. They had gotten the hood position so far out of adjustment that it would not pop up when I tried to open it. Forunately, someone that I was travelling with pulled up on the hood as I pulled the lath release to get it open and I was able to adjust it so it would work properly again. They got Loctite after that.

I think something is missing on my hood stops.

it would not poop up
I've never had that particular problem, but mine definitely turn with almost no resistance.

You certainly caught an embarrassing typo. I need to edit that.

If your stops also turns with no resistance, that may be normal. I will consider using Loctite on them or something that will keep them from adjusting themselves. I can't imagine they would automatically adjust themselves to the correct position.

The two hood stops on my Bronco turn so freely, seems like they could easily lose the proper setting, but so far they haven't.

I did add a couple chair leg cushions to get the height right so hood won't wobble.

Same here on my 2023 Badlands. I think Ford overlooked this. It's a bad design. I've never had a car where these are free to rotate.
I removed them and wrapped the threads with Teflon tape. That way they remained adjustable but stayed put once in place.
Surprised I haven't seen more posts regarding this.

I don’t know if this is correct thinking or not. When I first got my Bronco, I noticed a lot of hood movement/flex when driving at highway speeds. I adjusted the hood stops and got rid of most of the movement. Haven’t had to adjust them since. Could it be that the pressure from the hood is keeping the stops from moving?
Don’t know, but it seems plausible. I’m sure someone will know the right answer

It seems the face that contacts the hood is large enough to not allow rotation but with all the movement off-road it is still likely they would rotate. Another concern is when work is being done under the hood it would be easy to knock one or both out of adjustment. I will be doing something to reduce this possibility.
