This is a very annoying situation for me. I have a 22 BB 2dr 2.3. It’s been great, no mechanical issues, but last fall I started hearing a metallic pinging or banging. It sounded like something was hanging down and hit the pavement occasionally. Brought it to the dealer “we couldn’t hear any noise, and everything looks good underneath”. The noise does come and go, so I thought maybe it was something that solved itself. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. I’m hearing the noise constantly, so I swing by and let them drive it. They also hear it. We book a time to drop it off. They have the car for 2 days, take the wheels off, brake pads, etc. Everything Looks normal. They tell me again that they can’t find anything. A few days later it comes back again. Now I’m fuming, and drop it off for SIX days. Picked it up Saturday, and I’m told “we can’t hear anything, and we drove it several times. Maybe it’s just a characteristic of this model”. After less than 10 miles of driving, the god damn noise is back! I don’t want to bring it back to Ford, but I also want it fixed since it’s still under warranty. Turn your volume up, and someone please solve this problem!
Thanks!

Rock or screw in one of your tires???? Spare tire moving around on the tailgate???? Endless possibilities. Could remove the spare to see if the noise stops. Maybe movement in exhaust pipes. Grab it and shake it around to see if you can replicate.

Checked the tires, nothing there. I should say that it seems to click more frequently when I turn right. I’ll mess with the spare tire but it seemed pretty solid last time I washed the car.

My 96 did that when it had a bad automatic locking hub, the clue was doing it more on the turn. The hub wasn't fully unlocked.
Clearly a different setup on 6g but that's the area I would look at.

This noise is still happening, despite having the car at 2 different dealerships for a total of 7 visits. No matter what they try, no one can find the source.
Ford, please tell me what to do here, it’s been over a year with no resolution.

Err….. well… don’t think you’ll get anything from Ford around here.

After having chased down so many different clanks, rattles, buzzes and what not in my own rig, I can sympathize. A couple of hints that may help

Sounds love to bounce around and sound like they are coming from someplace, but actually be coming from a complete different area. Having a second person who can move around (especially with a mechanics stethoscope) can really help.

Be persistent. These things are hard to find on a good day. Lord knows I don’t have much love lost for dealers but can’t really fault them for not being able to chase a lot of these down.
