Got around to fixing my rock scrape today. It's not perfect but it's acceptable now. I used the Mother's headlight restoration kit but had to start out with my own 220 grit, then 400, before moving to the most coarse pad in the kit, 800. I could probably get it perfect if I kept at it with the 220.

Wow that does look a lot better! Kinda surprised it got that clear with 800 and you didn’t have to go higher grit

Oh no, I went all the way to 3000, which felt more like a cloth pad than sandpaper. 800 was just where the kit starts.

Yep the sand paper method is the way to go for deep scratches or heavy yellowing on the older cars and makes them like new. I use meguires paint polish compound with the buffer for my final polish and on headlights that just need a refresh with no sanding.
