Hard Top Screw Holes Not Aligned

I've never taken the hard top off my Bronco and recently I decided to give it a try and bought some @Rockworkx to make the job easier.


Everything was fine until I noticed 2 of the torx screws were harder to remove than the others. I managed to get them off but now I cannot get the Rockworkx on to replace them for the life of me.

Upon further inspection it looks like 2 of the screw holes on the hard top do not align with the screw holes on the rear of the body.

I'm assuming I can just make those 2 holes slightly bigger?

Any thoughts?

Are you sure the guide pins are seated correctly? Either that or, I suspect the top may be “racked” a bit and just needs to be squared up.

Just curious - how did you store the top when it was off the vehicle?

Try loosening all the bolts allowing for the hardtop to move around. That should give you more “wiggle room” to wiggle your top.

If that doesn’t work, I would NOT make the hole larger without first visiting the dealership and making a warranty claim of some sort. Best case scenario, they give you a new top, medium case scenario they make the hole bigger for you and then you’re still warrantied… worse case scenario you have to do it yourself anyways.

Just realized I didn’t type in the most important part… start all of the bolts into their holes before you tighten any of them… then gradually tighten them in series as opposed to tightening one, then the next one, etc etc

Ed, good feedback on this. Yes, the hard tops tend to flex and warp slightly when moved and sometimes need some "help" re-aligning. I would suggest screwing in the thumbscrews that do go in about 50% of the way. Then try shifting/ the hardtop, either the whole hardtop or the area in question. We have not had anyone say they needed to open the holes.

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a try this weekend.

I have yet to remove the hard top. So maybe taking it off and putting it back on along with the listed ideas mentioned here will help.
