Function of Mechanical Key?

My key fob has a mechanical key that pulls out of it. Read through the owners manual and perhaps I missed the part about it.

Locks the glove box and arm rest console. Also goes in the child lock mechanism on back doors.

Unlock the doors in case of a dead battery on either the vehicle or the key fob itself, also does the child locks and the center console/glove box lock.

Also… should your key fob battery die, there is a spot near the bottom of the center console where you can place your key fob to start the vehicle even if the battery on the key fob itself is dead.

There are no mechanical door locks. How does one unlock the Bronce with an absolutely dead battery?

OK…Just looked. There is a mechanical lock on the drivers door. Missed it.

OK, where is this "spot"?

Are we talking about where the shifter is? or actually on the center console? I looked at my center console (manual) and there is no place to put a key fob other than the tray area.

Inside of the center console storage compartment at the very bottom. On most Ford vehicles they have a little picture of a key fob to show you where to put it—not sure if that is true for the Bronco.

Personally... I would take the battery out of your key fob and test it. My wife had an issue with her key fob on her Escape, and I told her about that trick and it didn't work. After about 5 hours of troubleshooting in a parking lot... it turns out the connector for the key fob sensor (I assume it's just an NFC reader) in the center console had wiggled loose—probably wasn't connected all the way at the factory. So yeah, test it... one of those things you only will use if you really need it, and it would suck to have it not work when you need it.

Inside the console, pull out the fabric bottom... Voila.

They are called valet keys. Means you can lock your console and glove box and the person you give your key can only operate the vehicle. They can’t touch your stuff.
