I'm sure many know this. but thought I'd mention huge impact grain derived fuel has on 2.7 for this who don't

For the last year switched to Chevron 94 after Mobil 1 stations dropped 93 octane. Was getting terrible milage in Mustang and Bronco 2.7 so switched to Shell Red Label 93 this week.

What a huge difference. 30 % better economy and drives way better.

Mentioned it to a buddy and he pointed out the Chevron is grain derived fuel and it has been know to ruin high end cars.

Good to know about Shell Red Label 93. I use mostly Country Mark 93 octane, and my Bronco (which has the ProCal tune) loves it. Also had good luck with Sunoco 93 octane. I average 23 mpg on the 2.3L MT.

I'm using Costco 93 and get consistent 21 MPG with a 2.7

Hmm... interesting

My fillups are mostly at Chevron and Valero. There are only a handful of Shell stations nearby though. I try really hard to stay away from anything else when I can help it.

But I never thought to try to clock if there was a difference between them. I'll have to pay more attention.

Wouldn't that just be... ethanol? Which they usually disclose the E-number (around here it's usually E10 or E15, same as most all the other stations). True that more ethanol will tank economy - it only has about half the energy content as petroleum based gas. But they blend it because it's cheap, it provides additional knock resistance (the Octane rating - that's why you see a lot of the Tunes requiring some blend of E85) and for emissions.

I've not noticed any appreciable difference regardless of where I fuel up the Bronco. Most fill-ups are either at QuickChek or Shell, with 2 out of every 10 being at Exxon or Mobil.

I always run 93 and continuously average just over 16mpg regardless. 2024 Wildtrak. Always in Sport mode and 2H. I don't drive it like a racecar (that's what my other toys are for) but I don't baby it either. Only performance mod so far is an AFE Momentum GT intake.

I've noticed a marked improvement in MPG since running ethanol free 91 in my 2.3.

I normally run Shell or Exxon 91.

That is interesting, someone else here was tracking their mileage and they noted a singificant reduction in MPG when going ethanol-free.

Not saying you or they are wrong - just interesting to note.

Where I am in Colorado you don’t find many name brand fuels. I run 87 in my 24 2.7 Wildtrak. I’m getting any where from 20.5 to 22.4 hand calculated.

Obviously you just use maple syrup and Molson in your gas tanks.
I have no idea what's in the fuel I believe regulations require 10% min ethanol for all gasoline pretty sure the octane booster additive makes all the difference.

Cannot speak to Canuck fuel, which is generally not sold in the same gallon-units we use, nor even the Bronco since mine is still being built.

But, I've long had noticeable increases paying extra for ethanol-free. I've even gotten close to 40 in the Spider on the 91EF from Buc-ee's. They also have 86. Increases were also noted in my now-departed F-Type. There was a price to be paid though...

In California all fuels have min 10% ethanol. Thank you corn industry lobbyists.
