6 months ago it had diff service. There is a thread on potential problems with overfill on the service. I will know more next week when it goes in.
They never told me squat about mine when it failed, just that they had to ship it off to Ford.

Problem with overfill? Could you add that link, please.

I wondered the same thing, I don’t see how there’s any way over filling a differential could cause damage. Maybe blown seals because of thermal expansion, then loss of lubrication? But that doesn’t jive if they are vented.

Today I joined what is apparently a long line of owners with front diff issues. Have been hearing a slight thumping sound for a while but though it was the unusual tread wear on the tires since it started shortly after the last rotation. However, after replacing the tires recently the noise remained. Dropped it off at the dealer today and got a call saying the front diff needs to be replaced. Service rep said there were 3 other Broncos there for the same thing. Good news is that it didn't fail on the road or deep in some wilderness area. Also, the rep said a replacement will be here in 3 days. When she said front diff failure I was dreading hearing, "backordered with no anticipated delivery date" phrase. Guess we'll see if it actually shows in 3 days. Anyway, was just wondering how many others have had similar issues and what if any issues turned up after the diff was replaced. Can't complain too much since this is the first issue I have had in almost 60k. This thing has been so much fun.
Sorry to hear that, but at least it was diagnosed before it left you stranded on the trail. Sixty thousand miles before the first major issue isn't too bad, although a front diff definitely isn't something you'd expect to replace. Hopefully the new unit arrives as promised and solves it for good. I'd be interested to hear if anyone who's had theirs replaced has put a lot of miles on the replacement without any recurring issues.

I have not put a lot, the 10k I have put, have had some very hard duty miles.

Was replaced in less than a week. Has worked perfectly since. Almost 10k so far with about 300 on sand and trails. Agree that front diff going bad is odd, especially since mine is open, just rear locker.
