Im looking for a way to cover my front axles.

I know they look rusty, i will wire brush and lube them
I will paint the surrounding hub face with Por15 after cleaning them up

I dont think the factory hubcaps provide any real protection from surface rust
I also think the factory hubcaps dont look good.
Any advice is appreciated

wire brush the rust off, rub a little bit of axle grease on the threads, and put your hubcap back on and don’t look at it again until you rotate the tires next time

A hub cap?
https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-cover-wheel-m2dz1130b

The rust is normal it is a steel part.

You could paint them but if paint got on any of the parts around them you would have problems.

I would worry about your lugnuts first, they are not looking so good.
And don't get just any M12 x 1.5 lug nuts from the auto parts store. I'm not conversant with the terminology, but the edge of the lugnut is beveled in a special way to meet the matching edge on the wheel. You could crank generic lugnuts down good and tight, but they wouldn't fit right. Probably best to get them from a dealer.

thanks - this post is about finding an alternative to the plastic hubcaps - something i can screw on or push on to the actual threaded axle part just for added protection

Not sure but measure it and check out some trailer hub dust covers.

As for the axle, clean it, tape it, shoot it with a cheap rust resistant paint.
