Ford definitely pushing us all to the auto but I'm not giving in. I promise it will be 100 times more fun to drive a manual 2.3 than a 2.7 auto. There are tons of suvs with power to choose from none of them have a manual option other than a jeep. This vehicle is about the experience and not the convenience. We will all be driving EVs in 5 years so let's enjoy!

Is the 2.7 10 spd American built and the manual isn't?

I’m not sure, but the 2.7/auto is a combo used on other Ford products. The manual is a new product designed in Germany and produced in China as far as I can tell from reading on this forum.

edit: my apprehension comes with the 2.3 info I linked in a prior post, paired with a never used before mt. Like I said before, I might be overthinking it, but everyone needs to evaluate the options for themselves.

As much as I’ve been 100% all in on the 2.3/7spd, I finally argued myself into a corner and decided to go 2.7/10 spd on my 2 dr BD. I love “rowing the boat”, it gives you a fee of being in control, holding a gear just a bit longer so you don’t have a lag, dropping that gear hammering up a steep climb, I love all of it, no issues dding a manual.

What got me was the stipulations and restrictions.
- no mid/manual without going BL
- 400 torque limit
- none of the perks (trail turn, trail control)
- no public track record yet for the 7 spd
I’m not looking to go nuts in the power department, but 310hp/400tq out of the box, with 375-400hp/450-500 tq easily attainable and well within factory parameters is impressive.
I was looking forward to the 95:1 crawl ratio, but 80:1 is still ahead of a similarly prepped JLR. I’ve never needed trail turn assist, particularly on a 2 door, but it’s one more trick to add to the arsenal. And let’s be honest, I’m getting old and brittle, heated seats and remote start are a necessity in Michigan at this point (still don’t have my heated wheel ?)

All of that pointed towards the 2.7/10 spd.
Anyone else end up getting duped or was it just me?

I am 29 years old. I have never owned a manual car, but I learned to drive on one. I've had a Toyota 4runner and an F150, but I have always really wanted to own a manual. When I saw the Bronco came in a stick, I was sold. I couldn't think of another vehicle cooler to have as a manual (besides a sports car, which I plan to have some day, but it's just not right for me at this point in my life, as this will be my only vehicle). I love manual cars because it really feels like you're DRIVING. I have always loved driving, but with with technology advancements and iPhones, I myself am guilty of being distracted on the road. I hate it, and I now do my best to avoid it, but I certainly have had my eyes off the road when I shouldn't have. To me, anything in this day in this day and age that helps us focus on actually driving I think is a good thing. I am not trying to sway anyone, just offering my perspective. I think the Bronco will be HEAPS of fun with a stick.

I have a 1965 MG with a non synco first 4 speed that I track day and auto-x when I need to demonstrate my masculinity. I could care less that the Bronco has an auto box. In fact in my opinion and experience an auto will get you farther down the trail than a manual especially given the deep gears for the Bronco. I also wonder about the durability and longevity of the mt7. I mean the R1080 is used by two brands and in a dozen models with a majority of market involvement. The MT7 is an also ran side gig. Do you think it is the absolute pinnacle of design and engineering for a sliver of the market segment? I think the peak of the MT was the SM465, bulletproof and deep gearing but now 3 decades on.

I’m in pretty much the same situation. I can’t get over how dumb it is that I have to jump up to Badlands for basic comforts with a manual transmission. I got into this game for a BD with 7MT & mid package. That’s all I want/ need.

I’m currently driving a 2018 Corolla (bridge vehicle, had to sell the BMW, long story) and it has most of the mid pack features with a stick shift. It shouldn’t be that hard.

I don’t have a need for a sway bar disconnect or front locker, but I want heated seats, climate control, and a bunch of other mid pack features in my manual trans Bronco. Black Diamond + mid is perfect without the arbitrary limitation.

So it basically comes down to 4 choices:

1. Get the Black Diamond with 7MT and no mid pack, and live without basic features
2. Spend way too much on the Badlands for unnecessary stuff
3. Get the auto (which probably means V6 too, cause why not) and give up the whole reason I jumped in to begin with
4. Don’t buy a Bronco

I hate that it’s become this difficult and my decision changes daily. I mean, until yesterday the auto wasn’t even an option but it’s started to creep in so I get it. I’m still resisting but here we are.

Ugh, it wasn’t supposed to be this hard.

If you got into the game because of the 7MT don’t change. A part of you will always regret not getting the manual. Like you my choice was a BB, 7 MT with mid package. Ford won’t let me do that so I will drop down to a Base 7MT.
You didn’t choose the Bronco because you could get a heated steering wheel. If you can’t have everything then narrow yourself focus to what drew you to the Bronco in the first place.

Hands down we will be getting the MT! After driving the MT’s the auto was just boring and I was surprised at how fun an MT was to drive in the Jeep’s.

A Toyota SUV that is somewhat irrelevant in this conversation, as it is out of production. I don’t know how many were built with a manual, but I would guess they are pretty rare. They have such good resale value, they are actually appreciating in price right now.
