For Those That Carry A Spare Inside

There are a couple runs I do with a local offroad group where they require a spare with you. I will be doing a rear seat delete (no use for them) and installing a flat floor via plywood and a stall mat. I intend to secure the spare inside.

For those that have done this themselves.......how do you carry/secure your spare inside?

*No disdain for the spare tire delete, I like the delete. Embrace it though. Putting a stinky, dirty tire inside of a vehicle is almost always a terrible idea. The smell never goes away. It takes up way more room than you expect it to..it needs to be safely secured or it becomes a deadly projectile in an accident.

What else will you be storing in the back? How easily will you be able to access the spare in case you actually need it?

Does anyone make a tailgate and hinge reinforcement that will hold 110lbs?

What about an aftermarket bumper with a tire swing out tire carrier?

I've seen others mention using the hardtop thumb screws that you can hook a cargo strap too.

Mine are 109lbs, no issues with the spare on my tailgate.

. Not exactly apples to apples here but this might give you aimed ideas. If I recall the company that makes the mount has other options more suitable for what you need. Cheers!

I do have a set of the GPCS 8 pc. d-ring tie down's on order. Thinking of using those.

So what tires are you running size wise? Some of the last gens had the tire mounted where the sub is now. You could go drivers' side and use a y ratchet strap with a well secured molle panel.

Hummm, I could use that strap and mount 3 d-rings to the plywood. BuiltRight also has a nice molle panel for the rear hatch area. Not sure I want the spare vertical at this point. Good food for thought here!

You'll have to zoom in, but this truggy uses gas shocks and a latch from a trunk to keep this 43" tire low while riding but it goes up trunk fashion to allow access to his stowed items.

On my ‘74, when I wheel it, I put the spare in the back area. Steel wheel w a 33” spare on an old tire carrier didn’t make me feel good. I lay it flat and strap it down in an X pattern. The. All the gear get thrown on top of it.
