First Responder Strobing Blue Lights options?

Just gee whiz,
Not everyone has a paid fire department or ambulance service. Volunteers respond from their home to the station to respond to emergency or 911 calls. As with any emergency lights or vehicles there is or should be some form of rules or policy about the use of lights and or siren. Even in a full blown marked and lighted emergency vehicle using lights and or siren is a request for people to yield and move out of the way and let the vehicle pass on their way to the emergency. Some states have laws about not yielding. We all have heard of the wacker running lights and playing cop. Bad news for the legitimate folks. There is a number out there of the number of volunteers vs paid firefights and it was something like 74 percent volunteer. Just because your running lights doesn’t give someone the right to go crazy, that is how people get hurt and then your a new emergency and helping no one. Ps. I rode a fire truck for 14 years as a volunteer and my state doesn’t allow any lights or sirens on a pov. Thank you very much for volunteering!!!!!!!! Train train train!

Mine are not blue but I use amber for search and rescue work. I mostly stick to feniex and whelen for lights.

I have a bar in the rear window and 2 light heads in the front bumper currently

@Frankie_datte - You may want to edit your original post to clarify you are a volunteer firefighter and this is legal in your state/reasoning for them. Not that you should have to explain yourself, but it'll help the 80% of B6G who doesn't read through a full thread.

I wasn't aware this was legal in some areas, and learned something new today! I'm surprised they aren't mandated as to specific models, light outputs, etc. and have recommended vendors/lights suggested to volunteers.

I have been looking for good strobing blue lights for the side ditch light position on my 2023 Bronco to connect to my auxiliary switches. Also, strobing blue lights that could fit in the opening of the modular bumper.

Does anyone have any good recommendations? I saw some options on Amazon but I am hesitant on their legitimacy.

Don’t know of anything for the mirror position, but you can get blue lenses for Baja Designs S2’s. If you happen to have a SwitchPro SP9100 unit, it’s got a built in strobe function that could flash them.

When I was both at different times I just used a tear drop.

New York cops do not just use blue or green light hence why they are allowed. We are a good ol red white and blue light kind of state.
And yes I am a police officer.

Blue is for volunteer firemen

Same in Indiana.

Red is STRICTLY for emergency vehicles, mostly gov't owned (fire/cops/hosp), some ambulance contractors.

While I'm on it, i BELIEVE the Fed DOT standards forbid forward facing(viewable from the front in any manner) red lights EXCEPT for emergency vehicles.

So, those red halo lights... gonna get ya in trouble here.

Same goes for that red disco mirror ball in the back of your van/bus/moardoor ... if they see it thru the windshield, they'll impound your love machine. LOL

Blue exterior lights? Don't. Just don't. You may think you're cool, but you aren't. Strobe and/or oscillating blues after that, even more so. What after that, a siren?
Can't explain for other states but in my state you must have a permission certificate from the local chief or commissioner of police, even for cops in their own vehicles.

Police are under enough public opprobrium from the media and our so-called political and cultural elites. Anytime lethal force is involved the cop is assumed to be wrong, especially if the suspect is a member of some "disadvantaged" demographic. And you want to go around with blue lights? Another excuse for suspects to flee police, which would lead to incident escalation and the increased possibility of somebody getting hurt--or killed. "Hey, I thought he was just some pretend cop, so I didn't pull over!"

Blue lights? Don't. Don't, don't, don't. You're more than irresponsible, you're illegal, and dangerous in ways--directly and indirectly--than you realize. Ask a local police lieutenant for what your state allows--or doesn't.

The simple purpose is to respond to an emergency efficiently and help out those in need (and is 100% legal in NY and NJ). Nothing more, your opinion may be applicable to others, but not me.

Legal for volunteer firefighters in CT as well.

The O.P. never stated what, if any, his official capacity is. Absent that specification, my suspicion is that he just wanted to dress up his Bronco with another light array, in this case, strobing blue, for vanity's sake. As I stated, if he had an official capacity, he would have known the procedure, whom to confer with, and how/where to go about it.
As other posters have noted eligibility for color lights and the manner in which they are arrayed vary from state to state. The O.P. didn't seem to be aware of that. I stand by my post that, unless other information is forthcoming, the O.P.'s interest is vanity-based.
