I have not shared any of your experiences and I have been far less impressed with the value per dollar of VW.
In all fairness, the US and Mexican made VWs are pieces of crap. Materials quality is atrocious.

I had a 2016 Golf R built in Wolfsburg, loved it. Sat in a Atlas at one point and was like, ugh, no way!

The Raptor is not a gentrified Bronco. By design, it does not offer the luxury appointments and options of the current Defender and other pricey brands that will virtually never go off-road. It is the most expensive Bronco and for good reason: It is the most capable store bought, purpose built off-road vehicle currently available, bar none. And it is not only not a slap in the face to the Gen one Bronco, it is an exceptionally conceived and perfectly executed salute to the Baja Bronco and Big Oly of Baja 500/1000 race fame that put Ford Bronco on the map.
The capabilities are unreal and downright insane for a factory build. That being said, I think they did a good job making the interior feel a bit more special.

I owned a 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport P290 HSE and seriously considered going with a Defender. Also had a 2016 Toyota 4Runner followed by a 2020 TRD Pro in parallel.

The Raptor blew me away for overall package, especially when considering it in parallel to a LC First Edition and Rubicon 392. The suspension tuning for one thing is an absolute work of art.

So maybe not gentrified, but definitely well done. Just damn expensive! it puts a smile on my face everyday that I don't think a well equiped Defender 110 would have ever been able to do.

And for what it's worth, the quality and reliability in my first 9300 miles has been better than my Land Rover experience. Oh yeah, and oil changes don't cost $400.

It's my first Ford and I like it so much I'm seriously considering going with an Explorer ST to replace my EV6 when my lease is up in 2026 (kind of need a 3rd row family truckster).

Hate to dismiss your complaints but you get used to it so you can either enjoy driving it warts and all or trade it in on a new Land Cruiser or Defender.
Better hurry. Jaguar/Land Rover just announced they have discontinued imports while they assess the tariff situation. The new Toyota LC Prado is still an option I suppose.

Au contraire. My 2017 GTI says otherwise.

It's not the factory, it's the generation. Mk7 is peak Golf of whatever specification.

to be fair, they have so much inventory on the lots they happily found tariffs as an excuse to say that.

Alright, that's probably the one exception. I was forgetting that the GTI is produced in Mexico since the Golf R I had was made in Wolfsburg.

Atlas, Passat, Jetta, etc. interiors are meh.

Agreed.

This came across for me today; despite the couple of belly laughs, you have to cry.
Watched it through out of curiosity. I have never driven a Q4 or the closely related iD4, but pretty much ruled VW (and Audi's) cheaper EVs out of my search back when I was looking around in late 2023 given how behind the MEB platform is in many ways.

Folks tend to fixate on range, but in many ways the speed at which a car can DC fast charge is really the most critical factor for using an EV for longer distance trips (the one thing that they really still struggle with in my opinion). That reviewer keyed into this as one of his first complaints. VW is horribly behind on this with that platform and the fact that they just released in the US (the now dated) iD Buzz with a similar terrible combination of range and charging speed blows my mind. Nostalgia and impulse buys may push some people into them initially, but I expect it to ultimately be an absolute failure in US sales.

Audi interior quality also is definitely behind on their cheaper cars. I was in a friend's A4 a couple years back and was really amazed at how mediocre everything felt in it. Additionally, I seriously looked at a SQ5 back in 2020 and just didn't feel like it was worth it. Audi's S and RS cars have always been interesting and are still pretty nice packages, but everything under them is just so decontented unless in a vehicle like a Q8 (and even then you need to throw $10K+ in to option it to their prestige trim level).

My 2012 Solar Orange Audi TT-S (Prestige) felt like something special when I got it. Attention to detail, build quality, and chasis tuning were just next level. Combine that with that I had ZERO mechanical or electrical problems on that vehicle in about 78K miles of ownership and we drove the snot out of it (averaged about 18K miles a year with it).

There's just nothing to justify the cost of these vehicles now over just getting a VW, or be happier and go with another manufacturer altogether.

I've owned 3 new fords (2 mustangs and my Bronco) and I've been incredibly lucky I guess. I've never had any issues with poor fit or finish. Paint is/was great on all 3 vehicles.

My '22 Mustang is flawless and other than the remote reservoirs rusting off my rear shocks (recall is out for it now, but wasn't at the time) the only complaint I have about my Bronco is the airbag cover in the steering wheel is showing the seam where it splits apart for deployment.

I've discovered the best way to do a physical inspection of the body is a good hand wash and dry. You'll find everything.
That's one of the reasons why I always tell dealerships "DO NOT WASH MY VEHICLE." That applies to service or the initial purchase. I've had two dealerships get upset with me for demanding that before. "It's a courtesy we do for all customers." "I've never had anyone request that, the vehicle is already in the wash bay." Ok, well tell them to stop. I don't want that crusty microfiber towel being dragged on my paint after the minimum wage teenager dropped it on sand, broken glass, broken lighter chunks and the cigarette butts all over your parking lot.

This is a broad generalization and by no means an accusation against all dealerships, but I know for a fact that many use very temporary sealers and glazes (including the WD40 trick) to minimize the appearance of scratches. A few rain storms or a good washing later, and all of these scratches and swirl marks magically appear and leave the owner wondering what happened. I have seen it happen many times, and I'm usually the guy that gets called and asked how it happened and how to fix it. I have done "charity paint correction" many times for friends and family.
