Feb Build, Loaded, want it?

Hi all
I’ve Been reading and enjoying this forum for quite some time as I excitedly waited for my Bronco. I reserved back on day 1 July 2020 and submitted my order in October 2021. It’s a carbonized grey Badlnds 4 door hard top, fully loaded (Sasquatch, Lux and leather)

Unfortunately some life events are going to make the timing bad for this purchase. I went to the dealer yesterday to cancel the order, not knowing it had been scheduled for build. I was surprised to see the VIN on the paperwork. The salesman seemed very happy I was canceling. He proceeded to tell me they have been selling Broncos for at least 10k over MSRP, and that mine would bring a minimum of 20-25k over MSRP.

My other half told me to not cancel and we would sell it ourselves for profit instead of letting the dealer do it. Not sure that’s something we could do..,but Im thinking I’d rather let someone else buy it that’s an enthusiast than let the dealer price gouge like that.

If you're going that route, absolutely make no mention to the dealer of your intentions to sell it.

I told them I had a family member that may want it instead of us and he said that was fine..sounds like I would just have to go to the dealer with someone that bought it. I have it in writing we get MSRP with no mark up or add ons.

That seems like a lot of trouble to me, plus paying tax etc. People have actually done that? I was thinking I could walk someone in the dealer and let them purchase it instead of me.

There's been at least one person that's posted here before that had their dealer refuse to sell it to them after learning they may flip it. Sounds like yours may be different.

I'm not sure the dealer will let you do that based on the reservation policy. They'll take a hit selling it to someone other than the person who reserved it.

Name match policy aside, I doubt a dealer will let you do that, especially at MSRP. If you aren't buying it, they would love it if you cancel so they can sell it for a huge ADM. They aren't going to let you "cancel" but honor your price agreement with some rando you bring in

Ill clarify with them but I had already told him a family member would purchase it for me instead and they said it was fine.

Dealers have to maintain a certain % when it comes to reservation names matching who the vehicle was sold to, or else they take a hit to the number of Broncos they're allocated.

Nope. That would be too easy. Pretty sure you need to front load the costs, take the sales tax hit, and wait to take title (which could take awhile due to COVID, especially in Cali)...and then file the capital gain down the road. Is it worth it for $5k, obviously not when you factor in sales tax. At $10k it starts to make sense. Unless you really want to go through that, shoot for $15k+ premium to actually make some cash, otherwise (if the dealer let's you) show up with a family member for them to purchase directly and consider it a good deed.

Dealer success metrics that are reported to Ford include matching reservation addresses to purchaser addresses. Your suggestion to walk in with someone else to buy would ding them on that metric. This is only one metric but something to keep in mind.
For example, Granger Ford is transparent that their rez to purchaser match rate is in the 90s.

I believe Ford lowered the name match requirement from 80% down to 60%, so you're dealer may not be penalized for selling it to someone else you bring in as long as they maintain name match on other orders at 60% or higher. If they are allowing you to have them sell to a family member or friend ar MSRP, you just have youself a good, honest dealer who is probably looking to retain customers on a long term basis and they figure you'll be back someday when you are ready, and maybe they've gained another new customer with whomever you bring in
