Yeah but why?

Why won't you be doing any adventuring? You're in NY, which is right up there with a ton of wheeling areas, camping, and skiing. I've flown into Boston and road tripped it up to Stowe, Kilington, and Shugga Bush (Sugar Bush). You can visit some cool breweries (The Alchemist), hell, even on up to Maine.

Not to mention Niagara or across the water to Canada. Just get a little gear for sleeping, water, then head out.

Don't make excuses, get after it, man! Fresh air will do you some good.
You’re right! I’ll do it! Truth be told, the only thing that would keep me from the Catskills or Adirondacks is life in general. Working too much!

Expectation: I live in Arizona, so I expect to take an off-road desert drive every weekend during the "winter" and during the summer go camping for weeks at a time at 7000+ feet elevation deep in the back country of the ponderosa pine forests.

Reality: It's been so long since I've had a car payment or the kind of full-coverage insurance you need with that loan... I may not have a ton of extra fun money for the gas.🤪

My expectations are my reality! Be parked at work Wednesday thru Sunday then on my weekends out and about road tripping and camping around home. Then that one big month long adventure to feed the soul! I usually have rough plans so I can fly by the seat of my pants. Hikes, off roading easy to moderate trails, camping in the backseat! Then trips to the river for floating and more camping!

Ohh year my reality will also be an epic multi-thousand mile roadtrip with plenty of offroading possibly with my sisters JL in tow for comparison.
If you are in HI then you have to go multi thousand miles so that you aren't going in many many circles.

Expectation: drive this thing from the Arctic Circle to Tierra Del Fuego. 24 months of overlanding - the adventure of a lifetime!

Reality: Garden State Plaza to Giant Stadium. F-it. Too much damned traffic. Time to go home and watch the Yankees game.

This is a good thread, I like this thread. I have done a ton of off roading/rock crawling with my CJ. Which I really want to do with my Bronco. However I have an 18month old and another baby coming in a few months. I think any true off-roading with my Bronco will be in a few years. I did take my daughter to a Jeep Jamboree this past fall, my poor wife hiked with her on her back the whole time while I drove. But I think two will just make it that much harder.. anyway I guess trips to Buy Buy Baby for diapers for now. I think I’ll be able to manage a few trips on the beach to do some fishing at least. My ultimate goal is to road trip with the family when the kids get older across the US to the west coast to explorer Moab and the Rubicon trail (I really hope I’ll make this a reality).

I feel ya. My being an Economist specializing in investments and commodity markets; trust, busy as hell.

But, the stress of work, work, work can kill you. Then want to know what they'll do at your job? They'll send flowers, then backfill your position with some kid.

So, it's for self help and your own enjoyment, so get out there on the weekends and take some days off.

Reconnecting with nature and family is like medicine right now. Best to you!

My expectations are to replace my Ultra Glide that we did Rt66 on and only got off blacktop once by mistake (TOP DOWN). Did multiple National Parks returning thru Utah, CO. This Bronco will have a Soft Top for fresh air riding, but We can put the top up if it rains. (6,000 + miles).

Also, finished our last 11 states in our Ford Edge taking some back roads that we were afraid we would not get thru and looked like we were out mudding. (6,000 + miles)

The Bronco Black Diamond should cover both a-lot better for a couple seniors.

I didnt spend the $ on my offroad trailer for it to sit in the garage or be more capable than the Bronco. So the Bronco better meet and/or exceed our GC trailhawk and my F150 capabilities. Dont see it being as capable in stock form as my wrangler. But the Bronco will see its share of moderate/difficult & sketchy trails out here in CO, UT & AZ.

Expectation: Driving the KOH and winning the 4600 class with my Badass Badlands Sasquatch, 2.7, with Loren Healy as my co-Driver and he does all tires changes by himself no less!

Ford Bronco Expectation vs reality 1614468793705

Reality: Running easy trails with just my wife as co-driver bitching about my inability to find a proper line and that I left the soap, again no less, causing us to shower or bird bath with the Ms. Myers dish liquid I just so happened to bring, but there's not much left and this is a 2 day trip.
