Just finished a 540 mile round trip from Seattle to Corvallis. As an experiment I had it on Eco mode for the drive down, and normal for the return. I had the same load, and took the same route -- 98% on I-5, between 65 and 75 mph both ways. In Eco I averaged 18.3mpg, and in normal I averaged 20.6mpg.

This was in a non-sas BL, 2.3l and 7mt.

Have others seen similar results in Eco mode?
It didn’t take me long to realize the Eco mode was hog wash. That’s why I keep mine in Sport at all times. Never know when I’m gonna have to smoke a jeep off the line. šŸ˜‚

I try to keep mine m/t in eco mode as much as possible. Most of my driving is short trips around town, but I get some highway miles in during the week (maybe 100 or so). So far my mpg is 20.3.

It literally doesn't do anything for the M/T except make the throttle response less aggressive. Which you can do yourself, with your foot.

I get about 21 mpg if I am in eco mode on the highway and under 70 mph. I got to 75 mph in eco mode I get about 18.3.

What the hell am I doing wrong?

2 Door Badlands Hardtop - 2.3 MT. Mostly driving around town with a few road trips on the Highway. Using reg octane and in ECO mode most of the time. About 1800 miles total.

14.0 mpg ?!?

Switch to a higher octane and put it in Normal mode?

I swear if you watch Eco mode, it seems like it doesn't boost the engine as much or easily as normal mode. And we all know boost equals bad in mpg.

Honestly I think you're experiment has some faults in it because you're not comparing apples to apples. Not saying you did this, but I'm blatant example would be going uphill on the way and downhill on the way back.

Headwinds make a huge difference. I went up the I-5 a few weeks ago during one of those really windy days, in Eco mode, and I was lucky to get 15 MPG. How are the entire time I was putting out 5 to 8 PSI fighting the wind.

The ultimate answer seems to be "try all the modes and go with what works"

We made our first long drive, to Detoilet from Tip o' the Mitt this past weekend. On the way down I drove in Eco and got 16.9 out on the freeway at 75-80. In the Big Smoke I used sport all the time so to keep up with traffic, saw 22 on the slower freeways and 18.6 on I75 at "freeway speeds". Mine clearly does better in sport that eco. Plus it's a lot better to drive. I do have a roof rack and upgraded tires from stock to 285/75/16's.
I also checked my fuel computer vs calculated and in my Bronco it's spot on.

Eco mode, you mean that annoying thing between "normal" and Sport?

Never used it, not even once

Just keep an eye out for that little 392 emblem on the hood. ;)

The reason I like eco is that on my bronco, eco seems to shift through the gears smoother. If I'm driving highway, I never even think about switching to it though.

I agree it’s marginal at best.

ECO is about 17 for me and 16.2 in Normal - I think ECO could be better sometimes but many times it drops significant if there is a bunch of stop starts. Sport is averaging 15 ish with Wildtrak 23 loaded with 35s and some extra weight.

I never use Eco due to my foot hating the feel of it it feels worse than a Mazda 3 with no HP from early 2000s. Sport also doesn't do it well since it over revs near 3-5th gear in the transmission especially if you blast it downhill.
