There is certainly a bit of hype with anything new, but there is also a very strong use case for EVs for a LOT of people. IF you have a homebase where you can charge it overnight, it makes for a fantastic vehicle for commuting and local trips. It is still a bit sketchy for public charging locations and long-distance travel, but it is improving. Many, if not most, EV households have a second car that is gas. That doesn't prove that an EV is a bad choice, any more than a motorcycle owner who also owns a car proves that a motorcycle is a bad choice. It's just a different vehicle for a different purpose.
Lot of wisdom here. If I need something from Home Depot, I take the wife's F-150, not the Mustang. I'd hate driving that gigantic monstrosity every day, but she likes it.

If they made a Full Electric Maverick, direct drive, no transmission I'd be awfully tempted to buy one. That would be a great "in town/commuter" car. And unlike the Lightning, it would actually fit in a garage for charging. Town car, with a very occasional very well planed and routed long distance trip is the best application with current tech.

E-Bronco, no interest though. I wouldn't even take a gas Bronco on a serious off road trip without a gerry can of gas since the tank is so tiny.

The minute the political climate changes ev's will go on the back burner. Mandates will go away. Till battery and charger technology gets to the point where I get a full charge as fast as I can fill a gas tank I will never buy one. Besides infrastructure for ev's is decades away. Not to mention they are not as friendly to the enviroment as were being told nor are they as cost effective either.

Sorry but an f150 is not a gigantic monstrosity. It's a comfortable safe vehicle. For people of my stature it's a good fit. Much better than the average car you need to buy 2 of and wear as roller skates.

Oh, it's comfy on the freeway. Or anyplace with a long straight line.

But at 145" wheelbase, it's a giant pain to park. I hate driving the Expedition because it is so huge, and the F-150 is way bigger. It's also far to long to fit on most garages.

A 4-door Bronco by comparison, is barely larger than a Mustang, and the 2-door is smaller.

Definitely! If it would have been an option I would have gone EV.

I love my wife’s Expedition EL. Hopefully, I’ll enjoy my Bronco just as much, if I ever get it. 😎

I had a reservation for a lightning and I was weighing the pros and cons for a bit until I witnessed a full size pickup doing a 12 point U-turn in a small parking lot. I think I cancelled my reservation next day.

I’m an old timer. If all vehicles were converted to electric, we’d need to increase our generating capacity by a factor of 4. That means 4x as many nuke plants, 4x as many nat gas/coal plants, 4x as many windmills, 4x as many dams, and 4x as many solar panels. Invest in elect generation and become rich. A nuke plant takes 5 to 15 years to build AFTER all approvals are obtained…EPA, snail darter society, rare butterfly society, OSHA, local building permits, and on and on. Environmental Impact studies can take years. Anyway, I think the ev ballon will pop when customers find out they can only charge their vehicle once a week between 2am and 2:15 am, and the cost of electricity rises by a factor of 10. EVs are no panacea young punks.

BTW, the more complicated a machine is the less reliable it is. I’d take a 4 liter aluminum short stroke V8 way before a twin turbo v6. I don’t know of one NA V8 that blew a $2500 turbo.

if a hybrid shows up I'd be very tempted to trade my BL Sasq in for one, if one had been available from the start I'd have picked that. Not sure I'd want fully (only) electric for something I want to take into the wild, depends on range I guess. But hybrid/electric are fun to drive. Plus full torque instantly is something no gas engine can replicate.

I'm sure we'll get at least a hybrid in the coming years. If it comes in a fun color like my cyber orange, I'll most likely make the switch. Most of my day to day driving is a couple miles in town, that could all be done on electric.

Power generation will increase as ev adoption increases. The price may increase for a time but it more than likely won't last as additional power comes online.

This isn't true at all. Reliability comes down to the quality of the design and the quality of the parts. Simplicity doesn't guarantee reliability

I had a 2006 SRT8 charger
Dropped a valve after the valve spring keeper failed
18,300 miles or so and it ruined the motor

V8, tho

👀👀👀

I swear people forgot about points, condensers and manual chokes

NO THANKS
