Why would one need this?
I wondered the same thing - maybe this is for people with oversized tires that cause the factory damper to not really work and limit the door from opening too far?

5th option? Be very careful until a wind gust catches it and smashes a tail light, then get very upset about a preventable problem.

I'm going to need one of those.

For those who have stuff mounted back there.
An example would be like my setup.
I have the Hammerbuilt reinforcement and the accessory arm that sticks out beside the tire.
Mounting supplemental fuel (pax or jerry can) or a small propane tank for camping on that arm will absolutely hit the light.
I even have the Oracle flush-mounts and either my Pax or my propane will hit that light if not careful.
This is a good preventive measure so you don't have to remember to limit it or fall victim to an ill-timed gust of wind or gravity-induced damage situation.

Plus M2M has some accessory arms and reinforcements similar to HB, and a lock box that was pretty sweet to mount back there as well (not the one pictured above, but an external one).

Not to derail this thread, but I’m definitely going to need some more info on this. I looked through your website but didn’t see anything. Is this something also in the works? 👀

Thank you for bringing that up, working on a thread for it now 😉😉

Why would one need this?
ever swing the tailgate out and the weight takes over and it slams fully open...or worse into a brick/concrete wall?

Especially useful, IMO, on a trail when you're at an angle and the tailgate can swing open and put unnecessary stress on the hinges etc.

I can see a market for this.
