From the perspective of, for example, leasing a 2021 for 2 years with the assumption that maybe down the road you'll want a Warthog or a limited edition Bronco? Or the first MY Bronc's may have serious issues....?
Not to mention, you can LOAD up a build with options, and with a trade-in, its still very inexpensive to lease...
Of course, this isn't taking into consideration buy-out as an option after the term (which may be very high) or re-leasing another Bronco after your first one (no trade-in value).
But you may also be able to load it up with accessories which will also be leased? Winch, racks, fridge, carriers, etc.

I'll also add, as a bonus, freeing up monthly cash with the savings to use elsewhere.... Investments, retirement, or saving up towards a buy-out without being financially obligated to a high monthly purchase price.....

i will never lease but your idea about trading up to a Warthog makes some sense.

i wouldn’t load up the accessories though. I also wouldn’t lease it if you plan to do any off road activities.

Wait, you mean a long term member, who knows how to use the search function, has not read all the other lease threads over the last few months? What scenario is different in this thread that those threads did not already fully cover?

Wear Care runs me $750 for the term of the lease and covers up to $5k of “damage”. It takes a lot of the worry out of leasing (it’s basically a transfer of risk) and makes leasing my last three trucks pretty worry free. I do always treat my leases as a purchase, so I rotate tires, accelerate oil change intervals, clean and maintain pretty regularly overall. I have bought a couple and turned in most. It ends up running me slightly more overall, but I regularly have a nice, worry free vehicle at a predictable cost.

Serious flaw in your idea.

You say it's affordable with a trade in.

At the end of the lease, what are you using to offset some of the cost of this coming Warthog/Heritage Edition?

Two/three/four years earlier, you gave them your trade in equity, maybe a down payment and every month for 2/3/4 years you paid them 75% of a payment to drive the car you could not afford. (Pulled the 75% number out of my rear...it's just the point of the exercise that counts)

.....and now you have nothing.
No trade in, no down payment, and no car because it was never yours to begin with.....and you want a 70 or 80K Warthog?

Honestly, do you really think you'll suddenly start saving a bulk amount of cash to paydown a Warthog in 2/3/4 years? ...while making 75% of a new car payment?

If I were to ever lease, I would put a LITTLE of my money into it up front (down payment) as possible.

leasing costs you more for the convenience of the option of turning it in. You are paying the presumed depreciation (which is always highest in the first few years) plus interest, fees, and they juice you a bit on the residual which means you are paying more than just the depreciation. If you are the kind of person who is okay with spending more just to have something under warranty and driving something newer all the time, sure. It makes sense. If not, then no, not so much.

Actually he was talking about trading in on a lease, not trading in a lease.

Good points... I wasn't talking about saving the money per se, but investing that money... Only suckers put money in a savings account to depreciate 🤑
Your Warthog analogy makes sense.
I wonder how it plays out with a trade in and then a buy out at the end of the term...? A brand new vehicle is probably the worst purchase anyone can make as far as capital and depreciation anyway!

The 75% is way off.... With a $20k car trade in, no money down, on a 3 year lease, it's like $178 bi-weekly, as opposed to $465 a month purchase over 60 months.
