Has anyone besides me ditched their Injen CAI filter box after cleaning their air filter?
It's such a PITA to remove the filter that I just tossed it.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm saying. Are you saying that you just have the filter element attached to the intake piping and no enclosure at all around it anymore? If that's the case you've turned your cold air intake into a hot air intake since it will be pulling heated air from the engine bay.
Curious to see what Adam has to say about this configuration. If you have time, I'd do a log and send it to him. The Bronco Raptor and Ranger Raptor have very restrictive intakes and see decent gains with an aftermarket CAI. In fact, the largest gains seen on a Ranger Raptor aftermarket intake were from short ram intakes on each turbo that pull hot air from within the engine bay. We have intercoolers, so that helps someYep, that's exactly what I'm saying.
Good idea! I too am curious about the short ram intakes. Keep us informed like you always do!Curious to see what Adam has to say about this configuration. Very interesting. I have the Whipple Stage 1 cooler which is bigger than most but obviously not as large as the CVF. We are supposed to have our first 100deg day today so I'm curious as to the effect that will have.Did a quick comparison with box on and off.
This is a 4th gear pull in manual mode and then throw it into auto before shifting into 5th. Same pull we do when logging. I slowed the video to make it easier to read. Did my best with the SxS
- Charge Air temps AKA ACT2/IAT2 (Highlighted) Box and no box - Temps are very close throughout the pulls
- Intake Air Temp (IAT) 15-20 degrees higher with no box
- Manifold charge temp (Closest temp before entering combustion chamber) within 5 degrees.
As you can see, even though IATs are higher with no box there's very little impact on ACT2 and manifold air temps. Keep in mind, this is with the largest Intercooler you can buy for the Ford Bronco (CVF/Wagner High mount) so it's clearly putting in the work.
I sent both logs to Adam, so we'll see what he says

Anecdotally, without the box installed I feel a bit of a bog with normal acceleration. You can hear the intake a lot more, but does feel like a slight bog or perhaps not as responsive with the box on. Maybe I need to do an ECU relearn or we can wait to see what Adam says.Very interesting. I have the Whipple Stage 1 cooler which is bigger than most but obviously not as large as the CVF. Adam reviewed the logs and said there’s nothing to adjust. I went ahead and disconnected the negative battery cable for an hour to reset everything. I’ll let you know how she responds after putting some miles on her. Initial Impressions are positive thus far.I think I have the same issue. I really wasn't sure if the bog was just in my mind or actually happening so maybe it really is happening.....My mind has played tricks on me before![]()
