Me too. Highly unlikely. Ford is going EV since the epa wants to kill all combustion engines.

A good idea ruined by the EPA.

Ruined more by fuel taxes which are higher on diesel than on gas. It takes less energy and money to produce a gallon of diesel or kerosene or jet fuel ( which is close to kero and would burn in any diesel) than a gallon of 87 octane even with 10% corn oil added so the price difference of over 1$ per gallon is hard to recover even with 20-30% improved mpg.

I would LOVE that, but doesn't seem likely at all.

Ford tried a diesel on the F-150 a few years ago and it sold so poorly here in the United States that they discontinued it already. If they decided to axe the option on the nation's top selling vehicle, the chances of them adding it to the Bronco is effectively zero.

With diesel being taxed at a higher rate here in the United States than gasoline, and modern turbo'd engines being so fuel efficient, selling a vehicle with a small diesel engine becomes a really tough sell in the United States. That ship sailed long ago... you'd have to go back in time 50-60 years to change it.

If Ford does offer a diesel, I can pretty much guarantee it will be "export only".

We've been sitting at $4.99 for gas, and $4.49 for diesel for over a month now here in Phoenix.

But modern diesels are such a royal PITA I wouldn't want one.

There are a handful of states that tax diesel lower than gasoline. Florida and Colorado are two of them. But federally and in most states, diesel is taxed higher.

When I lived in Arizona diesel was definitely taxed higher than gasoline. So either that’s changed, or there is a tax holiday, or there is refinery shortages happening down there.

Here in New England we have the added problem of fuel oil. Much of New England still uses fuel oil to heat their homes, so in the winter the price of diesel skyrockets. For much of the winter it was almost $2/gal more than gasoline—although we did have the gasoline tax holiday they put in place for Covid that I’m sure contributed to that discrepancy.

Diesel F350 sux at fill-up time, even at these prices...going smaller (Taco/Ranger-sized) and gas/hybrid for the next one.

I had a gladiator with eco diesel. I got 20mpg in town 24 on highway. Towed my boat with ease. But only when it wasn't in the shop. It was in the shop 4 total months out of the 7 I owned it. Which is why I now have a bronco. Modern diesels are not reliable

The range benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Plus the increased tank size capability. Since the EPA regulates gas tanks as "emissions equipment" there will be no aftermarket larger tank sizes. Diesel doesn't have that problem.

DEF is mildly annoying at worst, and completely unnoticeable usually. Regens are annoying, but also, hard to notice on a modern passenger diesel. A small 2.8 Cummins turbo would be perfect.

Would love a diesel (fuel taxes aside) but as others have said, the maintenance on EPA'd diesels gets stupid expensive.

What would be really interesting, is if the Bronco would be offered with a diesel hybrid powertrain. Would be a heavy beast though.
