I put in my day 1 reservation and ordered a 2 dr Wildtrak. Yep. 2 dr meant I was screwed out of 2021. I received the Ford email "Sorry, we can't make what you want. Try again next year". So... as one does, I waited. Went in yesterday to discuss converting and ordering the MY22. Now, since we've been waiting for... I don't know 16 months?, I've been on the fence about what to do. Is it really a good time to buy a toy? Could I justify trading in my Daily Driver and spending double the cost in gas or more? Probably not. Bronco would have had to be a garage living weekend vehicle.

So, we sit and talk at the dealership. Not with my regular sales person, as she was busy... so I chatted with this other guy. I told him about my reluctance, and what I was looking at maybe getting instead. Let it be known there was never a cut and dry answer to what I wanted. I'm just too indecisive. It's a curse. What he did say was literally, "we can place the order and maybe you when the lottery and it doesn't matter what the responsible course of action is." I'm like, "guess I choose the Green since Rapid Red went bye bye. Everything else can stay the same." A little my chit chat. A little more sales pitchy-ness. I left with the understanding of, I have a few more months to decide what I want... and push come to shove the resale value... I could probably come out ahead selling it used! Or soooooo that's what I thought we decided.

I get an email from the sales manager, "Hey, thanks for coming in. I went ahead canceled your reservation and refunded the $100. Have a great day." Now... this is confusing right? Well turns out they had a different opinion of how the conversation went. I guess they decided I wasn't interested anymore. Ironically, I got an automatic email from them a couple hours later last night saying they got my request for information on a Ford Bronco.

This morning I talked to my sales person for a bit. I know it might be possible to fight it and go through Ford Customer Service and get my reservation number back... but it sounds like a giant pain the ass for something I'm not even sure I want anymore. MIC top issues, and who knows what else will pop up. But I suppose this is the universe telling me what I should/shouldn't do. So, It's with that... that I say I guess I'm out. Maybe several years down the road when they are a dime a dozen and I can find a nice used one that someone paid $30k over MSRP and never even drove it.

Well that sucks but to your point, it's just a vehicle...an epic meltdown not going to change anything. They'll be plenty available in a year or two. Your not out...just on pause

These dealers dont want to deal with anyone unless it is a sale right then and there. They also dont want to invest the time. They just want to get Broncos and sell them for over msrp to people walking in off the street.

Pretty much! I think this was their way of not hitting the 20% or whatever number it is that they can get away with not selling to the person ordering. This way, they don't have to deal with my indecision, can keep their allocation, and put their standard $5k ADM for a big bend order they place on their own. Oh well.

You got it exactly right. I hope Ford is reading these stories of what dealers are doing to people.

A very similar thing happened to me, Ford let me switch dealers. I’d at least cancel it online so they don’t get it.

Are you sure they really cancelled your reservation? they may have refunded your $100 but I bet a day 1 reservation they will use for their own ADM purposes. Did you call Ford customer service and verify that your reservation is cancelled?

I checked the online reservation page, and it definitely said "cancelled order." I'm honestly ok with it. I just wish they would have handled it differently... maybe offer to 99 my order until I know what I want to do?

I live in West Michigan and several dealerships have Broncos sitting on the lot waiting to be sold at no mark up price. No one is buying?

Since you seem to be giving them the benefit of the doubt, it seems to the peanut gallery out here that you have some doubts in your own mind about if you led them to believe you wanted to cancel. Otherwise you would be livid. Of course, only you know for sure. You have three courses of action; Fight to get it back, let it go (buy a different manufacturer), or buy another Ford. You may be able to leverage a different Ford discount or services if you insist to your dealer that they screwed you over and they owe you something.

My take is that you don't feel any passion one way or the other, just a little FOMO regret. A $50K toy is a sucker buy if you don't have any passion, I don't care how much income someone has, it would be a dumb move.

Sounds like walking away and revisiting in a few years is exactly what you should be doing. I suspect you will have plenty of company before this is all done.
